I needed to replace the battery in my 94' C280 Mercedes. Opened up the trunk just fine with the key and got the battery out then shut the trunk. Went to replace the battery, tried to open it with the key and could not get back in the trunk. Is there a button or latch to manually open the trunk?
Yes but you must remove the rear seat back and cushion to crawl through or power up the system from under the hood at the jumper cable hook ups.

you need to replace the motor assembly. get the part of the internet, maybe rock auto. it's an easy repair just a couple of screws and a plug connector.

open trunk with key bob or button in car.

There should be a positive charging post under the hood. Hook up jumper cables to this post for positive and the engine for ground. Then get in the car and pop the trunk with the trunk release button.

Just had the same problem.
The fact the key had not been used in many years the locking mechanism was basically stiff'
Applied copious amounts of wd40 kept turning the key back and forward while applying pressure and release to the boot lid did the trick
