I have a 1996 mitsubishi galant that wont start. i got a brand new battery and had my alternator tested. could my starter be to blame?

My car wouldn't start, so i had to get jumps. I got my battery tested and it was no good. So i replaced it with a brand new battery. I also had my alternator tested and it came back as good. Then my break lights were staying on, even when the car was turned off, the break lights were still engaged. We got the part for it and changed it out. The break lights still stayed on. After putting this new part on it started fine. The next time i tried to start it, it would not turn on. It wouldnt turn over at all. So I'm thinking its my starter. I'm not sure if changing the part out has anything to do with it. Can someone please help. Thank you.

SOURCE: new starter good batt. only clicks wont turn over 1995 montero

The Batt does not have a full charge or it is the wrong cranking AMP's for the car... find out if it is the right Batt and also that it is put on a "slow charge" over night or at least 6 hr's

you don't hit the alternator, you hit the starter to help is shake free because it is already going bad. take battery and alternator to parts store and have both tested. check the wires at the starter and make sure they are on SECURELY. very important SOLID CONTACT is occurring. do your lights turn on? check starter relay if the eclipse is equipped with one.

Galant wont start

Interesting, this sounds just like no output from the alternator. If the alternator is good then it has to be the cabling or connections to the battery. If you have a multimeter take a reading on the cabling then read what is actually reaching the battery posts.

Mitsubishi wont start

It amazes me how many people jump straight to a bad starter, battery or alternator. They forget that some vehicles like the 2009 galant have a key fob key that has an immobilizer chip in it that will allow the car to crank but not actually start. If the battery is going bad or the chip is going bad itself it would cause intermittent starting as well

Hello, I have a 96 mitsubishi galant es that wont start

could be the crank sensor, you need to check spark and fuel delivery, if you have fuel then its got to be the high tension side of things that are wrong, does this model run off a coil pack for the ht, could be that, you said you change the alternator, check connections at the rear of alternator, this could be the supply for the ht etc, good luck.

My 1997 Mitsubishi Galant won't start. Initially I believed it was the starter. I took it out and had it checked. It is working fine. I replaced the battery and I noticed that the 100 amp alternator...

You have short circuit between battery positive terminal and chassis.Follow a cable from battery to an alternator. If O.K. remove alternator and check all diods- 6 pse. Also check cable from battery to a starter motor.
