Hi there:
You will have to pinpoint what the engine is missing...
- Spark
- Fuel
- Compression

All three of these are tested when the engine is being cranked over. There are two way of checking for fuel. Fuel pressure and fuel trigger. Both are very important and must be present for the engine to start. Fuel pressure is self explanatory. You just hook up the gage and see what the reading is. Fuel trigger is check with a noid light. The injector gets unplugged and the noid light gets plugged in to the injector clip. With the engine cranking over, this light must blink. This is the signal to the injectors from the computer. You can have all the fuel pressure in the world, but it wont matter if the injector is not pulsing gas into the cylinder like it should.

Compression tester, spark tester, fuel pressure gage and noid light are all accessible at your local auto store. All three tests play a very important part in diagnosing a no start condition. Be extremely careful when doing these tests.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

SOURCE: 1997 ES 300 How to reset anti-theft system when car won't start

With the doors shut, insert the key into the drivers door lock. Lock and unlock the door 5 times. This should reset the system. If that doesn't work you should contact a qualified repair shop.

You may have corrosion inside your battery cables or a loose connection somewhere.

If you have a voltmeter connect one lead to the POSITIVE post of the battery and the other to the POSITIVE post on your starter while you have a friend crank the engine
WATCH YOUR HANDS!

This is called a voltage drop test and you should see less than 0.5v on the multimeter while you are trying to start it, if you have high resistance (corrosion bad connections) you will see a higher voltage. 0.5v is the MAX you should see.

Do the same test on the ground side of the circuit, connect to the NEGATIVE battery terminal and the starter case, your voltage reading should be 0.1v or less

Okay you may want to check to see if the sensor on door lock cylinder hasn't fallen off from the lock itself. Pull of the door panels and check the wires at the door lock cylinder. Hope this helps.

2002 Lexus LX 470. Crank but no start, I've changed the battery and spark plugs and ignition coils and it still will not turn over. I need help please.

You say 'Crank, no start', but you also say 'it will not turn over'. They are the same thing, if it cranks, it is turning over, but not 'firing' or 'starting'.

After you disconnected the battery, did you reset the Security System and Engine Immobilizer? You know it has one, that flashing light on the dash?

If that doesn't fix it, an auto electrician with a $5,000 professional grade Autel scan tool will be able to diagnose the entire car in 30 minutes. A $130 scan tool is garbage.

1995 Ford F-150. I just replaced battery and alternator but battery is completely dead when I turn engine over.

Question edited for clarity, typos and words that are incorrect 'automator' to 'alternator'.
Question moved to model category.

Put a battery charger on it for at least 8 hours on 6 amp charge. Make sure the battery ground has a good contact using a digital multimeter. After 8 hours, start the car and run it.

Next day, try and start again. If the battery is flat, you have parasitic draw.

One further thought, does this old vehicle have a security system and engine immobilizer? Do you have a steady or flashing red light anywhere. You may be locked out of starting the engine because you disconnected the battery. In fact Goggle says it does have anti-theft.

It's easier than you might think. In most cases, the anti-theft system on a Ford F-150 can be reset by turning the vehicle to "accessory" mode and leaving the key in the ignition for several minutes until the anti-theft light shuts off.

2016 escape titanium won't start. keyless. remote functions but won't start car. how do I reset computer?

Ok disconnect the battery cables like you were instructed in the first answer the when you reconnect them the vehicles alarm will go off when it does use your keyfob to shut of the alarm and it will come out of theft mode and start if you don't do this you will have the same problem no start then when you first put the key in turn it to on but don't crank the motor this gives the self test for the computer to start and you'll see dash lights for check engine and other sensors go out and you will here the fuel pump energize now crank and start give it 10 minutes running to relearn the sensor values then drive the car ok please make sure that there is nothing hanging on the shift lever and you only have 1 chip key in the car with you otherwise it will pick up both chips and will not start good luck stephen

Clicking under the hood, dashboard lights keep flashing. Wont start!

Hello Vickie,

It sounds like your battery is dead, or if you're really lucky, your battery cables are corroded.
Pop your hood and inspect your cables at the battery, especially the Positive (Red) lead. If you see white oxidation build up, then the cables need to be removed and cleaned.
If clean, then the battery may be dead. It can be beyond its service life (sometimes there is a date code on the battery so you can determine age).
If the vehicle can be jump started; after starting, turn on heater fan and headlamps to high. If the lights are dim, then the alternator may be bad or is going bad.
Start with the battery first, then go from there.
