Was driving in 4x4 and then it decided to stop working and I went into a ditch. Dealer can figure out why it goes in sometimes and not other times. They replaced the actuator switch and it still has a problem. The AWD did work though. Any ideas?

I had a suspicion that my 4X4 was not working properly also. I have the same symptoms. When the switch is in AWD the 4 wheel drive seems to work fine, but when I put it in 4X4 mode it doesn't work at all.I had a suspicion that my 4X4 was not working properly also. I have the same problem as the original problem reported on this page. My 2002 GMC Envoy's light is out and my 4 wheel drive is definitely not working, ended up stuck in my drive way. It worked fine yesterday, moved it to AWD yesterday afternoon, as the roads had slightly improved, then last night with more snow I put it back into 4 Wheel Hi, then parked it in the garage, went to drive it a few hours later and there was no light and no assistance from the AWD or the 4 Wheel drive....does anyone have any ideas??I have the same problem as the original problem reported on this page. I've had this same thing happen over the years in my 2003 Envoy. The light on the switch goes out and the "Service 4WD" light comes on. The symtom goes away after a few restarts. check fuses, if they check out I would look at cable/linkage that attaches shift lever to transmission. If it don't have a 4x4 shifter it's probably the switch that puts it in 4x4.
Check fuse #48 in the rear fuse panel first. If fuse is good, you may have a bad selector switch or the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module) has gone bad. A technician with a high end scan tool can diagnose the system.
hi hows it going, i'm having the same problem have you figured it out? i was out driving today came home for 3hrs then went out again and noticed the 4x4 light was out and the fuse was blown and blew when i put a new fuse in it's about -31 degrees could have the cold done got something stuck? any help would be awesome
I also have a 2002 Envoy. Shifting to and from 4wh and 4wa can be done on the fly but shifting to 4wL has to be done stoped and while in neutral. Try that. Otherwise I'm afraid its a new computer for you. Its located under the left rear seat and you need a loan for one.
