Run the fault codes and check for an EVAP venting problem
could be the valve or the solenoid to control the valve
indicates that the fuel pump is having trouble pulling fuel against th vacuum in the tank from a vent problem

SOURCE: 1993 Ford Festiva Engine won't stay running

Just a little suggestion. IF this is a 1993 it is fuel injected.the car starts and runs for a few seconds and then dies. You are on the right track by checking the spark and fuel delivery. If you have both of these when it dies i would check injector pulse. the use of a noid light would be the quickes method. They can be purched at the parts house for pretty cheep. If you have no injector pulse then it cuts the fuel off to the engine.Replace the ignition module (contols spark and injector pulse) i have ran across a few that will lose only one of the outputs, insted of both of them. Now if you have fuel and fire, i would check to see if the cat. converter is damaged or cloged thus restricting the exhaust and stalling the engine. Hope this helpes.

Runs good shut off for a few minutes restart runs terrible engine spits and sputters

A bad fuel pump may cause a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l to run for a few minutes and just shut off without sputtering. It can also be that the fuel pressure regulator (on top of fuel pump assembly) is stopped up. Dodge Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year three times.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Added lucas gas treatment to my sputtering 1997 buick lasabre it starts but wont stay running

You need to check fuel filter and fuel pressure. A fuel pressure gauge is about a $50 item. You can listen for the fuel pump by just turning the key to the Run position w/o starting. It's in the tank and you should be able to hear it run for a short period of time as it builds up pressure to about 50-60 psi. It should hold that pressure for a period of time after you turn the key off.

Cranks but wont start ,sputters but wont start has fuel in tank, it is a 1999 cougar V-6

Hi!!It sounds like your fuel pump is not working. Check fuel pump relay on engine compartment fuse box have somebody to turn the ignition key to the RUN position, DO NOT CRANK ENGINE (feel if the relay clicks when the key is turned, it will only be energized for a couple of seconds and then you should feel when it gets de-energized. if relay is OK, remove the fuel tank gas cap and repeat the same key operation, listen to the fuel pump coming in, again this will be running only for a couple of seconds, try a few times until you are sure one way or the other. If fuel pump works, then replace fuel filter and try to start vehicle. If vehicle does not start. You need to check fuel pump pressure. borrow a tester form Autozone or similar auto parts store. The fuel pressure should be between 30-40 psi with key ON engine OFF. If pressure is off either way, replace fuel pump. Here is how to hook up the fuel pressure tester 1kbron_71.jpg

1995 Jeep grand cherokee is missing while running. When it is under a heavy load (driving fast) it runs fine. When idleing and slow driving it spits and sputters.

I have the same problem on my 95 grand cherokee laredo. Sometimes it starts out fine and after about 10 miles it starts spitting and sputtering. Then after a while it seems to clean out and run fine again for a little while. Then other times it starts out spitting and sputtering at the begining. I changed the fuel filter and that was not it. It is a 4.0L 6cyc. Any Ideas?

Thanks,

2001 elantra lack of power

Confirm ur fuel pump is working. Ensure ur pickup tube is not blocked. Then ensure u did not leave a rag or parts in the manifold tubes. Not laughing it happens. Is the distributor in the right spot. Etc etc. Did u rehook the alt up if removed . Is tje battery fully charged. And lastly is the fuel flowing and freash. Then recheck your work did u replace all parts right. Any air in the head gasket will make the fuel /air mixture off.
Good luck

Have the cam sensor and/or crankshaft sensor checked. They could be going bad.
