Our Hyundai, 2002 XG 350 has a P1191 code that comes up, the car will run rough and sounds like it wants to cough when you start to push down on the gas pedal. We have replaced the plugs and three wires to cylinders 1, 3, 5, We also had trouble codes p0300, p0350 along with cylinder misfire codes for #4 and #6 with random misfire codes. These misfire codes did not return after the replacement parts were installed. The intake manifold was completely clean and we noticed that the worm gear and worm gear sprocket are damaged. That would be the gear is missing teeth. This gear turns the six valves inside the intake manifold.

The engine valves are not being opened and closed properly due to the worn gear and missing teeth. Needs to be replaced.

Higher octane gas 93 with some good octane boost in the black can at autozone cost about 7 dollars or a bottle of 104 octane boost. Change the fuel filter. Probably only one coil pack is bad. The OBDII reader should tell you which one was a misfire.

Check this Removal & Installation procedure...

  1. If the compressor is marginally operable, run the engine at idle speed, and let the air conditioning work for a few minutes, then shut the engine off.
  2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
  3. Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/charging station.
  4. Loosen the drive belt.
  5. Remove the nuts, then disconnect the suction line (A) and discharge (B) line from the compressor. Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination.

  6. Disconnect the compressor clutch connector (A), then remove the mounting bolts and the compressor (B).

  7. Using a hexagon wrench (6mm) remove the bolts, the manifold assembly (A) and the gasket (B) from the compressor.

  8. Install in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
If you're installing a new compressor, drain all the refrigerant oil from the removed compressor, and measure its volume, Subtract the volume of drained oil from 200ml the result is the amount of oil you should drain from the new compressor (through the suction fitting). Replace the O-rings with new ones at each fitting, and apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil before installing them. Be sure to use the right O-rings for R-134a to avoid leakage. To avoid contamination, do not return the oil to the container once dispensed, and never mix it with other refrigerant oils. Immediately after using the oil, replace the cap on the container and seal it to avoid moisture absorption. Do not spill the refrigerant oil on the vehicle, it may damage the paint. If the refrigerant oil contacts the paint, wash it off immediately. Adjust the drive belt. Charge the system, and test its performance.

Hope this helps.

Coolant fan not coming on hyundai xg 350

Generally when there is 2 electric fans one is controlled by the engine control module and the coolant temp sensor for maintaining engine temperature and the other is controlled by the air conditioning control module used when the a/c is in operation. If engine temp starts to get near the red then both fans come on at high speed. If you want to make sure the other fan works though then just put 12vdc to it directly and see if spins. For it running hot I would replace the thermostat if it has never been done and replace the coolant. Put in a 50/50 mix.

Year 2001 XG300 P0115, P1159, P1191, P1193, P0115

P0115 - Engine Coolant Temp Sensr - open/short
P1159 - Variable Intake Motor Malfunction

P1191/P1193 Limp Home Valve - Low RPM

First, clean the throttle body and check for anything which might obstruct AIR FLOW to it.

The P1159 is the Variable Intake Motor Malfunction. this motor is either 'OPEN'... or 'CLOSED' position. It is located on/in the intake manifold (plenum) and is only opened when cruising... it is closed at idle. If it sticks 'OPEN' is can cause drivability issues.
