Transmission slipping in overdrive on my 89 ltd crown victoria.

****** is slipping only when in OD. When you step on the gas and when going up a hill. Not slipping in any of the other gears. Have changed the fluid and the filter and added some Lucas ****** medic stuff just yesterday. Took it for an hours drive, but still slipping in OD. Is their by chance any outside adjustments on the ******? or is their something majorly wrong inside of the ******.?

Thank you for the responses. The fluid was black and burnt smelling prior to putting all new fluid in it and the Lucas stuff. Now a week later since I first posted on here and Overdrive is now officially gone as of today. Can still drive the car in Drive and 1 st gear and it still goes into reverse. But to drive in Overdrive, no way. The fluid today,( since changing it) is still reddish color and does not smell burnt. Stumped

You dont need overdrive anyway waste of space i so go manual all the way easier and cheaper to fix ****** problems and if driven correctly can give you better gas milage

SOURCE: I have an 86 ford bronco II. Ive been driving

I would have to say no,there is nothing else you can do now. Does the fluid smell burned? Is it discoloured? If it is ok now after the top up and additive ,consider your self lucky.

How can i fix this problem im having with my crown victoria 2005 my OD Overdrive blinking

The OD light is blinking because the transmission control module has detected a fault in the transmission operation, most common is slipping as measured by the input and output turbine shaft speed sensors. You may feel no slipping but the sensors are detecting it or one of the sensors is giving a fault signal.

Transmission over drive is causing the transmission to slip. When I take off the overdrive the transmission functions normally but it uses much more gas.

Roger, that doesn't even make a whole lot of sense to me. If the overdrive is causing the transmission to slip, wouldn't it also cause the fuel mileage to go down? Are you sure the transmission is slipping? Or is the transmission simply shifting in and out of overdrive? If it is, is it shifting at the proper speeds? Driving at around 40 - 50 Mph will sometimes make the transmission go in and out of overdrive repeatedly. This can be perfectly normal.

Have you checked your transmission fluid level?

Is your overdrive off light flashing? If the transmission is actually slipping the OD OFF light should be blinking at you to let you know there is a transmission problem. Either that, or the Check Engine light will be coming on. In either of these cases, you need to scan your onboard computer network for possible fault codes.

My transmission jerks when i drive around 45 miles an hour then it stops but its not a real problem

It is probably "searching" for overdrive. If you are doing in town driving only leave the selector in drive. It should stop searching for overdrive. Once you get to a place that you will exceed 45 put it into od and it will probably shift normally.

Transmission not shifting

Well usually its the overdrive in the trans. Try disengaging it and driving. If it does let you go into the other gears then look into a OD silenoid.
