I just had the same exact problem and tried cycling the headlamp control and, voila, climat control is working again. Thanks, hbeck, for the great tip! ok why not say drivers demand here its 86f and hot. but do you want heat or cold sounds like ATC auto matic climate control options where it has a dial for spec. temperature:? if the display was dead. id check power to it\ 12vdc. fuse that look good can in fact be BAD checked fuses means what. we use a meter to check them so if power is present on the display controller then its bad. if no 12vdc there, the fuse or wires to it bad. for electronics to work ,need power and ground,at least active. see the ATC SELF TEST? th e book is free see ZJ jeeps. all is there chapter HVAC. Chapter 24 , wiring is 8w.

FUSE PANEL IDENTIFICATION (1983-90 LINCOLN TOWN CAR)The fuse panel is located in the instrument panel to the left of the steering column. To expose fuse panel, remove lower steering column finish panel.
Solution to you examine the fuse for your climate control in fuse panel both under the driver side dash and in power distribution box under hood.A diagram is detailed remove the located fuse and inspected if blown replace with the same amp fuse.
On cars with automatic climate control: To enter diagnostic
mode, set the temperature to 75F, press the the off button. Press
Floor, Defrost\Floor, Front Defrost simutaneously for 3 seconds until
the temperature display begins to flash. On cars without automatic climate control, set the blower to
any speed, turn the temperature control in between warm and cold. Press
Floor, Defrost\Floor, and Front Defrost. All codes will flash via the
Front Defrost button.
When the test is over all fault codes will be displayed (on cars
without automatic climate control, they will be blinked out on the
Front Defrost button).
