Spin all the pulleys by hand. Is one ready to fall off or frozen. Is the water pump pulley sloppy? Has the water pump been leaking?

SOURCE: Serpentine belt slipped off due to anti-freeze.

Probably wet electrical components. Use an air hose to blow everything off , and let it dry good before you try it. Or, the mass air flow sensor could be dead.

What engine do you have? The 3.3 and 3.8 engines have a single serpentine belt, and a belt tensioner, so no adjustment is needed. Did you replace the tensioner, and want to know how much to torque it? countrycurt0

SOURCE: serpentine belt replacement

You will only need to locate the fan belt diagram to replace it on correctly and a 1/2 breaker bar or ratchet to back off the tension er while replacing belts check the tension-er bearing if it feels ruff when you turn it replace it. Check water pump also to see if it turns smooth same with the alt.

3800 engine squealing

I had this problem with my serpentine belt idler pulley. It is either the tension pulley or the idler pulley. Autozone for about $17 to $25. Good Luck

What does the engine sound like when the map sensor goes bad?

The map sensor measures vacuum in the intake manifold, so a faulty sensor would not make a noise. The engine would run lean or rich and the check engine light would be on.
A squealing engine is usually a problem with the serpentine belt or one of the accessories the belt drives.

I just replaced the water pump on my 06 grand prix and now something is squealing like hell

The belt must be not in the right grooves on the compressor or alt, or bottom pulley.

2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT (non supercharged) is making a horrible squeeling noise coming from where the serpentine belt is. The belt has been replaced along with the tensioner pulley and brakes. I...

These vehicles are known to have power steering issues. They use up fluid and at about a 100k or so the pulley itself can "sheer" right off. I would check your power steering fluid level and go from there.
Thank you,

How to tighten serpentine belt for 2003 Monte Carlo 3.8L

the belt is self adjusted by a spring loaded automatic belt tensioner, if the belt is noisy or seems loose either the belt size is wrong (if it was replaced recently) or the tensioner is defective or one of the belt idler pulleys is defective.

Squeal under hood 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT (3.8 L)

I would start with a belt. While removing it feel how much tension the tensioner has on it, on the 3800 egnine they have a stiff tensioner(sorry I don't have any specs for how much) After you get the belt off you can look at all of the pulleys and spin them to see if the bind or look for stuff stuck in the grooves on the pulleys.
It sounds to me like the belt is streched. I would not recommend one of those gator back belts, they seem to make more noise sooner than a good v notch belt. But thats just my opinion!
