SOURCE: Convertible top on 98 mitsubishi eclipse spyder will not retract
There are 2 motors in the back located behind the speaker pannels on each side of the back seat. fist make sure they are both working. second there is a switch inside your trunk on the drivers side loceted behind the trim pannel to the tail light to switch from motors to manual top removal. third if your still lost the suport bar closest to the front of the top (not the one against the window with the clips) but the silver one has 2 smal black piviting bars on each end that sometimes get stuck try manualy removing the top and pushing that bar to the back of the car. Hope this helps you

SOURCE: Changing the front speaker 2001 Eclipse Spyder
There are 7 screws all together to remove the door pannel. First, you have to take off the hanlde for the door. the 2 plastic covers on the handle pop off revealing 2 screws on the top and bottom, remove those. then behind the the door handle on the inside, pull it as if you were to open it and there is a screw that you have to remove. Then there are 2 screws on either side of the door pannel, both are farily close to the top, remove those, and then its just a matter of popping the pannel off. start from the bottom, pop it off then slide it up. becarefull, after the door panel is free, there is a connection for the power doors and windows unhook that then the pannel will be free. after that the speaker will be right there and its common sense on removing that. good luck.

Go to dealer with registration and ID, buy $18 key for your vehicle VIN.
This will only unlock door and trunk release, will not start your car. Pop off the cover to your subwoofer in the backseat. There is a keyhole in the lower left corner of speaker. This pops the trunk.
I have an 01 spyder with top up u shud be able to climb thru if u can get back seat down.. however yours might be different since earlier model. Nothing else go to dealer and get key made loke other person said...and then go getcopy of your orginal key made.. both prob will cost u 50 or 60 bucks
Hey bud, i know this is a super old post, but I had this problem as well. What did you do in the end? The key slot the were talking about for the trunk under the sub is what i used. except i didn't have the key so i pulled the sub off so i could just tug on the cord the key slot was attached to, to pop the trunk. After I did all that and put it back together, and turned alarm off with my key (because I had to break in) I couldn't get my car to start! Did you have this problem?
