Toyota 2001 prius hybrid- warning signs

I have a Toyota 2001 prius hybrid. What does it mean when when the warning sign is of a car with an explaination mark through it on the panel?? Lucy S

    on start up when cold red triangle and check engine light pop on if you let it warm up and shut off,resart it lights go off. car seems to run properly when lights are on 2001 prius with 140,000 miles thank you very much!

    I've noticed the same problem.  With my car I had the inverter replace under warantee in '03.  Lately I've felt a "surge" (like I did then) as the hybrid system seems to "come on-line."


    Now, today, I got the PS, MAIN +/-, and ! sign.  This doesn't sound good...

You are being warned that the computer has deteced a problem with the Hybrid System, probably the main battery. Take the car to a dealer so that they can read the diagnostic codes and determine the problem.

Your owners manual should show all of the symbols and what they mean.I tried to get one to look at it but no luck...they should be in the manual though

Orange triangle sign is called master warning light. When this happens get your car be scanned with the help of diagnostic computer to get to know the problem in any of the systems.

Hi. When you have that particular light on, you need to get the power steering motor checked. This is not something that a non-Toyota service shop can check out. You need to take it to a Toyota dealer. They can check the steering motor system, and diagnose exactly what the issue is. Unfortunatly, there is no other way you can check it, as there is not "pump" on the stweering, it is actually a small motor that runs the steering.

could be as simple as you need power steering fluid, which intels you may have a leak, or it could be a bad pump. add fluid, see how long it stays in there, check every day andmore. if it doesnt last a week of driving then you have a leak somewhere. if it does but the problem persits, its the pump

The Prius has electric power steering. The "PS" in a rectangle means that the computer has detected a problem there. The red triangle with an explanation mark means that the computer has detected a problem with the Hybrid System. Usually it is accompanied by red symbol of an automobile. In any case you should take the car to a dealer who can read the diagnostic codes from the computer and determine the cause of the problem.

Prius series 1 (1998) warning sign
You will need to have this light reset with a scan tool, it is stored in a non-volatile (stays in memory with or without battery voltage) memory. Have the dealer check the cause, better than a tow bill.

I had the same problem. I unplugged the relays from the fuse/relay box under the bonnet. (Top left side) and replaced them. The problem disappeared. (2001 Prius 109,000 miles)
