I can open my trunk, but the two hydraulic looking bars on either side of the trunk/gate won't lift the rear door up all the way. I have to pull it and then push it up manually, and use a 2X4 to make sure it stays up. Does anyone know what these two bars are called and how I could possibly repair the problem? It lifts partially, once I pull it up, it just wont go all the way up, without force or something holding it in place. Any help appreciated! Thanks!
Ther lift gate gass struts there about 30 to 45 apeace at the part store there the hydrolic lift mrchanisms and a verry common problem if you go to the part stor they will know exactly what you need they are simple to replace pull the clip with a small screw driver or pick then remove and replace

Give latch mechanism a good spray with white lithium grease or similar also, in case latch is sticking slightly.

There is a switch in the lift gate latch that closes when the gate is closed and turns off the light, this switch is defective, replace it and the light will go off.

Well My 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee had the same problem and we had to just cut into the lift gate panel from the inside. It required cutting plastic but with a 94 looks arent everything and a working lift gate was worth it. But then we pealed back this black plastic mat under the panel and lifted up on the release bar(verticle bar that lifts the latch) and once we got it open we adjusted a little clamp that had slipped. Dont adjust it too much or when u lock it it wont lock! But sorry i dont know the name of the parts. But then u can screw the panel back in and it wont look to bad besides some cuts.
