SOURCE: engine overheated, now car won't start without giving it gas

Some cars cut off as a fail safe to overheating especially on newer cars. The computer controls the fans and if they are not working the computer is probably telling the car to shut off. Have you replaced the motors already, if not, this is what's happening. Once you replace the motors it should run fine. I wouldn't suggest driving it too much with this problem as it may affect the computer by giving it false info.

Inlet air temperature sensor, also known as throttle body temperature sensor, will do that. Don't go changing TPS, or IAC, as suggested in other post. If they work good in warm weather, they should do the same in cold. Air inlet sensor tells system how much fuel to deliver according to temperature, as engine needs more fuel the colder it is when starting.

Engine stalls when throttled. buick century

Are you leaking gas? maybe it's sucking air and your not getting enough pressure when throttled. I found a little leak on my truck right by the tank, not dripping but tube is shot so it sucks air and kills the pressure so when i press gas pedal it's dieing or stalling...

Starts dies

an alternator won't stall your car, the battery provides power to keep the spark going. It sounds like you could have some bad fuel, if you're able to run the throttle manually with your foot and keep it going that would indicate idle control. but if it stalls still when you are giving it gas. I would guess a fuel supply issue, either water in your gas, or fuel pump. Good Luck.

My car will start and idle fine sometime and sometime it dies and dies when put in gear

Engine stalls cold or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control. If the above cleaning doesn't cure your issues you need to have the computer controlled automatic idle speed control system diagnosed and repaired by a dealer or electronic engine control repair shop.

Car idles very rough and often dies when stopped or not giving enough gas. when i park and get out of car there is a noticable smell of gas. would it be fuel injectors or gas pump?

Dies when gas pedal is pressed

This engine has automatic idle speed control, the computer controls a "air bypass" valve on the side of the throttle body where the air intake hose from the air cleaner is connected, the valve and the throttle butterfly get "sludged" up and this causes all kinds of idle problems and off idle stall, see full list below and fix for the problems

Here is the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours.

To correct this problem Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, NEVER USE CARB CLEANING SPRAY, IT DESTROYS THE ANTI-STICK TEFLON COATING, spray it into the air intake through the throttle body of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes. The intake is now clean, if you continue to have the idle speed control problems you may need to seek the help of a professional.

Starts and idles ok but when try to go stalls

check the TPS on the throttle body It may have a too low of a voltage causing this engine to die out which is very common

My car idle dips to low RPM at a stop i give it gas it dies

Is the engine light on? Check the air inlet hose between the throttle body & MAF sensor for cracks or leaks. Try unplugging the MAF & see if there is any difference
