My 99' Acura

I changed the radiator and thermostat in the car, now when I stop at a light it start to over heat and it is leaking fluid, It is not antifreeze though. It is having some problems starting also. Can anyone help.

  • Hi MJK, We need to identify what fluid is leaking? Is it engine oil, is it from the transmission, brakes? clutch (if fitted) power steering. It seems to me as the engine is overheating it will probably be coolant, but it could be disguised by being mixed with engine oil. Let us have more details?

I found out that one of the fans was not working..I was asked to check the fuse, one of the sides was black. I changed the fuse and when I drove it it did not overheat. The fluid on the ground is water, nothing else is mixed with it, I am hopping that it is the a/c.

Check for a block in the coolant passages. You may need to flush the system out to remove the blockage.

SOURCE: 1996 Acura 3.2TL Overheating Problem...

From your description of symtoms it sounds like you have a bad water pump. If the coolant is not circulating properly you will have a heating problem. Sometimes even a new thermostat can stick and cause the engine to overheat. I have seen them fail in as little as a week after they were installed.

Acura '99 TL with a heating problem. New

Is this a heater problem or an engine overheating problem?? If it is an engine overheating problem do you have white smoke out the exhaust which would indicate a head gasket leak into the combustion chamber. You could also have compression gases leaking intro the cooling system. Is the thermostat the correct one and if so is it installed correctly with the sensor/wax pellet part towards the engine and it there is a pilot/bleed hole is it facing up. You could also have an ignition timing problem or have a lean running engine and/or a plugged exhaust system

Transmission fluid in my radiator

Transmission fluid runs through a radiator to cool it. You prabably have a leak on teh inside of the radiator. Better get to you local Acura dealer ASAP

LOW COOLANT LIGHT COMES ON SOMETIMES AND TEMP GUAGE SHOWS ENGINE GOING TO OVERHEAT. HEATER GETS COLD. IS IT THE THERMOSTAT?

There may be a thermostat problem, but your symtoms indicate low coolant level. When coolant is too low, it will not circulate, so you get no heat in car, and the coolant remaining in engine block overheats because no cool fluid coming in.
You need to fill the system up properly then look for leaks.
With cold engine, open radiator cap. Fill with antifreeze directly in radiator. Start engine, top up rad if level drops. Put heat control on Hot. Fan on low, heat on high. Gently rev engine and top up rad as needed. IF as engine heats up, it starts kicking fuild violently out of radiator, then the thermostat is bad. if not, then recap radiator, top up overflow bottle and you're done. Look under car for any sign of leaks. Steady dripping indicates a leak, then address that.

I change the thermostat and the heat will no get hot

You may have an air bubble in the system. Try removing the upper radiator hose and see if there is fluid there if not fill radiator with fluid until it starts to leak out at that point and replace hose. Start the engine and let it run until the thermostat opens and add more radiator fluid. Leave the radiator cap off for the entire process.

1999 Olds Alero. Low coolant light comes on and stays on even though its full. Starts running hot to the 3/4 mark. When the heater is turned on it cools off. Could this be the thermostat or the water pump.

TAKE RADIATOR CAP OFF WITH ENGINE COLD AND CHECK WATER ..MAKE SURE RADIATOR NOT BLOCKED,,PLASTIC BAG ETC. THIS SOUNDS LIKE LOW WATER OR RADIATOR ..STOPPED UP INSIDE ..IF YOU HAVE GOOD HEAT IT'S FULL OF WATER. REPLACE T STAT B4 RADIATOR..IT'S CHEAPER. ALSO CHECK FOR RADIATOR COOLING FAN OPPERATION..I,M RULING OUT THE WATER PUMP.

96 Acura RL overheating.

have you changed the thermostat? located at upper hose opposite radiator end in the gooseneck (usually 2 screws) make sure you buy a gasket or gasket making compound if changing. most overheats occur due to stuck thermostat (doesn't open to cool) you could pull tstat out for temp fix but it wouldn't heat well in colder weather

Car is over heating sluggish could it be the thermestator what do you think?

It could be a faulty thermostat, but there are other items that you should investigate, but remember to use caution when dealing with the cooling system. Hot fluid under pressure is nothing to take lightly. First, look for any obvious coolant leaks at the radiator, check radiator hoses and heater hoses for leaks, look at the water pump and make sure it is not leaking. Start the vehicle and let it warm up, see if the cooling fan is working properly. It may be the thermostat, but it could be something else. A thermostat is relatively inexpensive and if you can change it yourself, it would be a good place to start. Just be careful. Hope this helps and good luck.
