My Audi 2003 A6 is stuck in neutral starts but don't move.

Is it a manual transmission or an automatic? If it's a manual (clutch pedal), then you've got a problem for the shop. If an automatic, it should shift into a forward gear or reverse whenever you depress the brake.

I have a 1997 chevy blazer. the reverse isn't working the forward gears work just fine. do I need a different transmission?

Transmission is done. Nothing electronic will cause that, only mechanical

What would stop a transmission from shifting ?

On a newer car this is a mode the transmission goes into when there is a bad problem with the transmission. It will usually go into 2nd gear where you can drive it safely to get it checked out but will not shift into any other forward gears.

well, its not shifting into gear, mechanically or electronicaly, but by the blinking on your dashboard i would think your mechanic is right

Won't go into reverse sometimes

I'm assuming you checked your transmission fluid level. Sounds like a transmission problem. I don't think its something you want to try to fix yourself. you should take it to the shop.

You would need to inspect all wiring leading to the transmission solenoid for short or break in the wiring and/or replace the solenoid inside the transmission - they either work or don't -- One last thing -s ince the information was ommitted, do you know the manufacturers recommend method to check the transmission fluid? Have you checked tthe trans fluid????
