The car has a fuel leak problem. I was told by a garage that 'the pipe above the fuel tank' (which I think is called the filler pipe) needs looked at. I need to know if I could replace this myself as an amateur mechanic or is it just worth putting into the garage. Cost is an issue.
You can check to see if the hose clamps are tight on the filler neck and the breather hose ,i would also check the fuel filter under the car rear near tank for leak's as this can give the smell of fuel around the rear of the car . when you open the boot of the car do you smell fuel or is it only on the outside of your car????? hose clamps and fuel filter = outside of car. smell in side of trunk (boot ) fuel return line hose clamp might just need to be tightened up. you might have to remove the rear wheel and inner wheel cover to get to the Fuel tank filler to check the hose clamps.

The pipe going to the front of the car is going to the oil cooler, then returns back to the gear box.Replace the pipe and check the oil level. with the engine running.

Yes cars with timing belts have a schedualed time in service manual for replacement. this is very important if it breaks then you might be replacing engine. when doing timing belt you also have other items like timing belt tensioner and timing belt pulleys as well most of the time the water pump is driven by the timing belt and should be replaced at the same time. also all seals as well cam seals crank seals ect. timing belt is one of the most important items on cars today . great question most people wait untill its to late when it breaks. and what ever shop does it make sure they have a mechanic that does timing belts regulary and that they ask you about all the parts I mentioned to you as well that they clean all factory parts before they go back on.

the key's are special order and they are fairly expensive. Test the voltage in your remote batteries. They should be 3 volts. These systems are very voltage senstive and require a good battery to operate properly. I'm assuming you have the original batteries in the remote now and it is 6 plus years old. These batteries generally last 3 years so it is definatly time if you have not replaced them yet!
