SOURCE: Replacing value cover gaskets on a 1988 Ford F150 302 engine.

hi no short cuts on changing gaskets, u have to take off the top intake, then move all the wires and vac hoses, it is a pain, when I did mine and while I was there I changed my intake gasket also, and glade I did I found other problems with vac hoses and a water leak and an oil leak, the lower intake was nasty inside, here soon i need to do the timing chain and front cover there is a water leak....

Remove and test ignition module bolted to the side of distributor. If that is okay then it is more than likely the pick-up coil. Both can be tested for free at any major parts house

Where is my pcv valve located on my 1988 thunderbird 302 motor? It's not on the valve covers that i can tell.

Check the back of the intake manifold...they are about 2-3" round, and silver in color.

Many idling problems such as yours can be resolved by simply having the car tuned up ie , new air filter, change all spark plugs, oil change, etc... you'd be surprised by the outcome! Good luck.

I have a 96 Ford F150 with 5.0 automatic. 63K actual miles. It is a gas guzzler. I changed gear ration from 355 to 273 plus added a cold air intake system. Total cost of about $150 spent so far. I go

The cold air intake could upset the PCM strategy,
as the MAF Sensor now reads intake or metered air
differently than the vehicle was designed for

The gear ratio would require a reflash of the PCM,
I would suspect

Fords-- all of them- never got good mileage going
back to the 1960's

My wifes 3.9 V8 Lincoln LS does real good,
about 20 to 22 around town & we get from
25 to 29.6 on a 200 mile interstate trip

How do you take off the intake manifold on a 1985 ford F150 with a 302 engine EFI?

pull off the air plentum on top,which is about 8 small bolts,then the intake is easy accessible with about 16-17 bolts

My thermacter is bad

Part of the air filter system that uses hot air from the exhaust manifold to warm up inlet air during cold weather operations. It is actuated by a vacuum hose connected to the intake manifold by a check valve that goes to a small actuator valve in the intake snorkle of the air filter container. Make sure the vacuum check valve is in series.
