2001 Chevy 2500HD Whining

I have a 2001 Chevy 2500HD with an allison transmission that whines. Any ideas what the cause could be?

    whines low speed 0-30 mph then quits and sounds and runs great. contact me at [email protected] if you get a solution.

These transmissions have three sets of planatery gears the whining you hear is simply the gears doing thier job. You have to remember the allison trans is basically the scaled down version of the heavy duty isuzu truck trans they are designed more for thier load capacity then for comfort

Change the trans oil our it could be low

What is whining? Could be several things. Here are a couple of ideas.... Check Power Steering fluid level and transmission fluid level. However, if it is making noise while driving, it could be a wheel bearing. Good Luck.

Did you at any time change at all the automatic transmission fluid? If you did,are you sure you did use the correct specification auto oil?

High Pitched Whine
A high pitched whine like that indicates a bad bearing. Water pump, power steering pump, accessory belt slipping, alternator bearing, or in the worst case scenerio, Transmission pump.

Could be your alternator or a bad idler pulley. Is the transmission good? It may be the tranny or your differential whining.

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 4X4 Crew cab. 8.1 liter, Allison Auto transmission My anti lock brake and e-brake warning lights come on after I drive for a few miles, they will not go off until I turn off...
yes the front sensor will collect metal shavings causing this same problem.however you need to have it scanned when the lights are on. auto zone scans for free. the front sensors are in the front hubs. replace as a set as assymblies.

It is inside the transmission. It is called a reaction sun shell, it strips out, which causes the grind noise your talking about.
