I don't know liter size of engine? Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, my info says 38--45 psi. If you take any fuel lines loose, make sure no pressure, first.
Did you check fuel injector pulse? The 1.8L and 1.9L engine show close to same fuel pressure. Fuel--spark--compression proper amount and proper time.

Clogged air filter ? Needs air into the engine also ,plus compression . Are the fuel injectors spraying fuel into the engine ? Try spraying starting fluid into the engine through the throttle plate and seeing if it starts then ? If it does ,fuel injector problems .

So you have power there, why not try a little whap with rubber hammer near it while key on to see if it will do anything. I;d try it just to see if it will come back to life.

The timing belt should not have been affwcted. Sounds like you have everything chk'd and accounted for.. The best way to chk the cam and crank is a compression test.

Cavalier lost power and now wont start

You should check your fuel pump; it is very commun to Stop working at any moment .see if there is pressure at the injection port,if possible;or remove the throttle body intake hose and spray some starting fluid, close it,and crank it, if it start, your pump is bad. If you car is equipped with timing belt, this is another very commun cause of power lost; you may have a broken timing belt.

Have a 95 ford mustang. Had to make a sudden stop, I put car in reverse and when I put it back into drive it died. Ran the battery down trying to restart. It was an old battery so I replaced the battery,...

You may have tripped the inertia switch. It's a small black box in the trunk with a red push-button; it is designed to pop if the sensor registers a certain g-force and kills power to the fuel pump to prevent gas from being pumped out after an accident. Look for that behind the trunk interior panels.
Very good problem description btw.

Car died

The steering is powered by the crank by a v-belt, so, this only works with the engine turned on. Check all the gas supply lines (and fuel pump) and the electrical power from the distributor.
