Idler pulley has seized up. Trying to replace it. Got a few questions. First, will I need to lift the car or can I do this from the top? Next, there are 3 belts, all of which are connected to the crankshaft pulley. I need to remove the one that goes to the power steering pump before I can get to the serpentine belt (which is connected to the idler pulley). I don't understand how to get the nut off the power steering pump pulley without the pulley turning with the belt (I know the nut has to do with the tension so once I turn that nut the tension should loosen and I can remove the belt). Also, once I've removed that belt and can access the serpentine belt, how will I remove the serpentine belt? I don't where i can loosen the tension on that belt to remove it. Lastly, I am not familiar with the torque numbers so when I am putting stuff back together and the manual says to torque to such and such number... what does that mean? If you can answer one or all of my questions please help. Thanks for the help.
SOURCE: how to replace power steering belt?
Look for a still- tight pivot bolt on the pump. Lots of parts have an adjustment bolt on the bottom and a pivot bolt on the top-or vice versa.
If the pivot bolt is too tight, the pump may not swing in all the way to remove belt. Check for any other bolt or nut that won't let it move freely to get the belt off. Maybe the smog pump can be adjusted in?
