1985 toyota mr2 engine noise

The car runs great but there is this high pitched engine noise comming from what seems to be between the 5 speed transmissions and the engine it cant be the throw out baring since its not a sound of a clunka-clunka type noise but an annoying high pitched vibrating/rubbing sound car does not over heat runs like normal no loss of power shifts normal .

yeah i was just there today at my mechs shop and he showed me again the steps it goes through before it makes a sound car starts and idles fine > then just sits or drives no sound > only till engine warms up does the whistle happens> the whistle only goes away when it is accelerating > after the whistle starts it does not go away till you turn off the car and it cools down but stil goes away while accel-ing so yeah the guy over there were saying it could be a throw out bearing

okie dokie i finnaly have my car back home and still making the whistle the so i have been doing my research and have come to the conclusion that it is neither the input shaft baring or the throwout baring since the sound only goes away when i press on the throttle pressing or depressing the clutch does not make the sound go away it only happens when i am at idle does not seem to be comming from a bit away form the engine bay since i stood out of the car and listned for it the sound only got louder when i was near the underside closest to the driver and passenger sides

It still could be the throw-out bearing. When going bad, they have a high pitched whine or whistling, and if bad enough, could imitate a vibrating sensation. IDK, I would have a mechanic there listen to it.

SOURCE: Vibration through the car Transmission-motor Linkage?

Check to make sure both headlights are tight,,,when it rattles at idle go feel the headlight and hold it and see if the noise and vibration goes away, sometimes the headlight has too much clearance and causes a massive vibration,,if thats not it try...loosening all the motor mounts and rock the car back and forth and them retighten them,it reseetles the mounts and sometimes fixes the issue,,also check the lower engine and trans mounts for wear.

SOURCE: 2003 toyota mr2 spyder 5 speed transmission grinding noise

Here is what is going on. When you push in the clutch pedal you remove the connection between the engine and the transmission. At this time all the parts in the transmission stop rotating.Since the only parts in the transmission that can rotate without moving the car are the input parts we can safely assume that the noise can only be from there. This can be a transmission input bearing. Worn Synchro mechanism (allows the transmission to shift without grinding the gears)Low fluid in the tranny. Or a bad clutch component. Top off or change the fluid. If it still makes the noise you need to take it to a tranny shop.

SOURCE: 96 dodge neon, Loss of power, check engine light

check your fuel pressure, should be 40lbs+ at idle. If you dont know how to do this, have a friend or a shop check it for you. I had same problem, no power at all would barely run ect,, turned out to be fuel pump.

SOURCE: high pitch squeaking noise at idle

you might need a stethiscope to hear where this is coming from could be a idler or maybe the tensioner or maybe the alternator .. none of these would bother power

SOURCE: high pitch whining sound from engine

Check the power steering fluid if its low it could cause this. Also could be alternator, water pump, ac compressor, or idler pulley. My bet would be on the idler pulley, its the one that keeps the belt tension constant. Remove the belt and check this pulley for slack also spin it by hand.
Good luck, dont forget to rate.

I have an 86 MR2 that runs great but will shut down when driven for 30 minutes or so on the highway. The check engine light comes on from time to time and goes out once I decellerate. I found out that the...

Sounds like two issues. The O2 sensor would definitely do the light coming on and off (I have that problem on my MR2 currently). You can jumper the diagnostic ports to flash a trouble code on the dash (my O2 sensor is number 5). And, no, it should not cause the engine to shut off (it automatically uses default air/fuel ratios) I would make sure, however, that there is no bare wire touching somewhere. Now, the other problem sounds like an electrical issue, but it could be caused by heat - what happens with spirited driving at non-highway speeds for the same period of time?

I have a 1985 s10 with the2.8 5 speed trans when i let the cluch pedal up it makes a constant rubbing noise and a high pitched squeel and its all qieut when i shove the pedal down any sugestions?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly,
Your clutch release bearing (throw out bearing) has failed. The transmission has to be unmounted from the engine to change this bearing. (Just like a clutch job!) Being this is a 1985 vehicle you should inspect the clutch plate and the pressure plate for wear. The fingers on the pressure plate should be quite worn if the throw out bearing is doing as you stated in your post. I.e rubbing sound and high pitched squeel. Inspection of the clutch plate consists of making sure the rivets are still not even with the friction pad surfaces. Don't forget to also inspect the engine flywheel for abnormal wear while your working in this area.

Things you might need.... U joints
Transmission rear seal
Clutch Plate
Pressure Plate

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Fuel pump not geting power

usually the oil pressure switch is connected with the fuel system if this is bad it tells the ecm not to power the fuel pump because it thinks the engine has low or no oil in it.

Engine & valve problems

Could be the timing belt? If it breaks it wont be an easy fix and it wont be cheap to have someone do it for you either. The good thing is that it CAN be fixed, unlike those Honda motors. The power loss issue makes me think that it is a timing belt issue. Hope this helps a bit...Good Luck!
