Audi A4 "left dipped headlight" problem

The left headlight of my 2006 Audi A4 quattro has this annoying -- and dangerous -- problem: 1. The left headlight flickers 2. It then turns itself off 3. The message "left dipped headlight" appears 4. The message is changed to a sign indicating that the lightbulb has failed. If I turn the light off (Note: We're talking about driving at night here) and turn it back on again, the light will become normal again, for about a few minutes and then the cycle repeats itself. This problem is intermittent. It has been occurring a lot recently with the cold weather. I can't tell for sure whether it is temperature related. My Audi dealer said that Audi knows about this problem but doesn't know how to fix it -- changing the light bulb doesn't solve the problem. Has anyone encounter this problem and get Audi to fix it? ... Mike I also have the same problem with my right xenon light in a 2005.5 A4 Quattro. The light icon and statement "right dipped headlight" comes on. It pisses me off to no end! I took it to an Audi dealership and they said, "We can't find anything wrong with it." Ugh!! I'm glad for this forum and to know that I'm not the only one! I'm about to try the web site above to report this. Has anyone heard from Audi about this yet? We shouldn't have to pay for faulty mechanics!!!

I have exactly the same issue with me left headlight. I also have issues with the license plate light being signalled as bad. The problem is intermittent. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 2005 Audi A4 Quatro and i have the same problem with my left headlight. It usually only does it when the vehicle is cold, and ceses when it warms up. Last night, i was driving home from work (in the dark) and both headlights went out. I turned them all the way on (instead of from auto) and they came back on and the problem went away. I'm about to take it back to the dealership to have it looked at...as i'm still under warranty.

I have the same exact problem. I just picked up the car from the dealership yesterday and they told me they cannot recreate the problem in the shop so, as far as they're concerned, there is no problem. Within 10 minutes of picking up the car, the flickering and warning light occurred yet again. I don't want to replace the bulb if that's not the problem because of the expense (approx. $400; part + labor). The car is still under warranty but the dealership won't do anything until their diagnostic machine tells them that something is wrong. By the way, the dealership will attempt to charge you for the labor in their failed attempts to diagnosis the problem.

I am in the exact same boat as everyone who has written about the "left dipped headlight"!! It is extremely annoying and I would love to be advised on what to do. If you have any advice on fixing the problem please let me know, as anything would be helpful. Audi has also told me that it is "probably" my module and to replace it, thankfully I found this website before I paid the money and got the work done.

I also have the problem-- Right Dipped Headlight. Seems to be ok for a while, then any slight bump or sometimes when I make a turn I lose teh light and get teh message. After turning off the car, this clears up until the next occurance. (usually a daily occurance.) Hope someone knows the solution.

AUDI A4- 2005. There is a technical service bulletin for this exact problem. take it to the dealer when this issue has happened while driving. During a daytime drive when cold see if you cant get the light to fail while circling your dealer. As soon as you pull into the service drive do not turn the car off do not flip the switch. I am an Audi Technician for a dealer in Birmingham alabama. Personally this is not my favorite repair to perform; What audi states is that if the bulb flickers the bulb should be replaced; if one side fails the bulb should be swapped left to right if the fault continues with the bulb the bulb is at fault; if the bulb is swapped and the bulb fails again on the same side it is the module. NOW: I currently am working on a 05 A4 that both bulbs both modules have been replaced and Audi has no clue what to advise on a repair. THIS IS AN ISSUE if it has happened to you ask if there is a TSB for this issue or try to find it for yourself.

I need to find the fuse location for the headlamps on a 1999 Audi 2.8 A4 Quattro? Can you help?

The fuses location for the headlamps on a 1999 Audi 2.8 A4 Quattro are:
F18 (10 A) - RH headlamp - high beam
F19 (10 A) - LH headlamp - high beam
F20 (10 A \ 15A) - RH headlamp - low beam, headlamp adjustment
F21 (10 A \ 15A) - LH headlamp - low beam, headlamp adjustment

For Audi A4 the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram.

No dipped beam headlights on audi a4 1,9td 2003

Check up dipped beam headlights fuse inside fuse box. For Audi A4 the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram. If the dipped beam headlights fuse is OK, check up dipped beam headlights bulbs.

Left dipped headlight

I had the sane issue with my headlight and they switched the headlight from right to left to see if it was the bulb or the control unit. It turned out it was the bulb and they replaced it.... luckily under waranty. I didn't see a date to your post but mine was done in June 2009 and my dealer was aware of the issue.

Audi A4 "left dipped headlight" problem

this most likely caused by a poor headlight ground, check around the headlight for any loose wiring that is screwed to the sheet metal of the car under the hood behind the headlight.

Audi A4 "left dipped headlight" problem

Hi,I dont know if your Audi has the same problems as SAAB and VW but they suffer from what is called a dry joint on the circuit board inside the headlamp control relay, what happens is as the board heats up it causes expansion/contraction on the bad solder joint causing all sorts of component failures headlamps just being one of them, remove the relay and open it and on close inspection you will find the (dry joint/s) if your handy with a soldering iron a fraction of the price of some of these relays, you can re-melt the solder on the bad joints to cure the problem.

Audi A4 "left dipped headlight" problem

I have the same issue on my 2002 A4. According to my Audi dealer mechanic, there is a sensor on the front suspension that controls the angle of the headlight. Replacing this may resolve the issue.
