It should come off that way. Apply more downward pressure, hard, and turn till it stops and won't go any further. Then pull straight up There are tangs on the bottom of the metal top of cap that must be turned (towards loosening) before they allow the cap to be removed. Possibly, you haven;t turned it far enough.

SOURCE: i have a 2005 dodge

the problem that I came across with dodge caravan is that the transmission cooler is inside the radiator and it deteriorates to the point that the antifrise enters in the transmission. If the oil is the coller of strawberry ice cream.dont look any ferther. The trans will not last to long, the antifreeze deteriorates the clutches.the trans will probably have to be rebuilt. Solution:get an external trans filter then plug the cooling lines at the rad.

SOURCE: can you use preston anti

Make sure it is a universal all makes/models version and not just green antifreeze and it won't be a problem.

Where do you pour anti freeze in the 1982 Jagular xj6

You can open up the hood of the car and find the coolant reservoir. This can be whitish color or translucent. Loosen the cap up to a small extent, let the built-up pressure release, then remove the cap completely. Pore the antifreeze mix until it reaches the cold fill line on the vehicle's reservoir level.

What is the correct way to fill the radiator of a chevrolet venture The low coolant light came on then started flashing but the radiator is full of water but has no anti freeze is this the problem

Hi there!
First.- with the engine off and cool, put a flush and drain radiator cleaner run the engine for 10 minutes, turn it off, let it cool down.
Once the engine is not too hot, open the lowest hose of radiator while you put water in the main mouth of radiator.
Once you see the water flushing clear, put the hose back and then fill it with special GM antifreeze, (the one is orange color) put all gallon into it and the rest of water, LOOK FOR THE ONE YOU CAN ADD WATER, THAT'S THE BEST FOR YOUR VAN... Good Luck!

How to bleed air out of radiator?

Start car, remove black plastic screw by filler cap/top hose. Loosen just enough to let air out then you'll see some anti freeze seep out then tighten and you done.

How do I bleed it or does it have a self bleeder? it is a 2003 325xi.. I have limited experience working on cars.

On top side of radiator (near cap & where hose attaches) you'll find a small black plastic screw. With car/truck running, slowly loosen screw until anti freeze runs out. You'll first hear hiss of air, then anti freeze. Once you see stream of anti freeze, tighten screw and away you go.

I need to replace the radiator fluid. I've never done this before. What do I need and how do I do this?

take the radiator cap off, only when engine is cool , start and turn the hater on high temp. once the engine thermostat has opened fill the radiator to top, replace cap. infront of the radiator in between the grille there is a small plastic reservoir, fill this to the proper level, also PS Make sure you add anti freeze and not just plain water it is best to purchase 50/50 mix as in the winter the plastic reservoir may freeze and crack without anti-freeze and you will be always adding water .

Walk through on how to replace a thermostat in a 2001 Jeep grand Cherokee

Jennipherbrr,

1. Make sure the car is cold. Remove the radiator cap (press & turn about 1/4 turn to remove pressure in the system) Once the pressure is bled off you can remove cap and leave it rest on the filler opening.

2. Find the petcock on the radiator (the little valve attached to the radiator. You have to open/turn clockwise to drain the anti-freeze. Drain anti freeze below thermostat housing. About 1/2 to 1 gallon.

3. Have a catch basin for the anti freeze under the car. Remove upper radiator hose from radiator and thermostat housing.

4. Remove thermostat housing from engine block (usually two or three bolts in the thermostat housing). Scrap off ALL old gasket material from engine block. Double check and make sure all gasket material is removed from surface. If not the thermostat housing will leak.

5. Install new gasket with some high temp silicone. Place a couple of dabs on the thermostat housing and gasket (the silicone is used to keep the gasket in place) *MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL the thermostat the same way you took it out. Don't over tighten the thermostat housing bolts.

6. Remove the radiator cap and replace the anti freeze you removed (make sure the anti freeze is clean). Fill the radiator to the top of the filler neck and replace the radiator cap (push and turn the radiator cap to the right- like a pill bottle). Start the car and make sure the temperture guage goes up. The guage pointer should be in the middle of the guage.

7. Check the radiator reservoir for proper anti freeze level. DO NOT OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP WHEN THE CAR IS HOT!!! THE ANTI FREEZE IS HOT AND WILL BURN YOU.

Hope this helps

Changing Anti freeze

60/40 but 50/50 is fine, Locate the the drain it is at the bottom of the radiator, drain out the old coolant (remove the pressure cap) and refill the radiator slowly, fill the coolant bottle all the way to the top, run the engine at high idle for 10-15 minutes, do not overheat it, shut it down and let it cool, recheck the coolant bottle and fill to full line, that should do it.
