I have a vw bora 00 and the temperature gauge was not moving, I thought its the sensor, went to a mechanic,, while pointing the the gauge to show my mechanic I found out that it was not moving cause it was stuck by the plactic cover,, I pressed the cover with my finger to push the gauge a bit inside and it was working,,, it might not be the same fix for u but try push the transparent cover to fit the gauge in its place, and u might be lucky,,

1996goldwing trike tail lights fuel gauge temp gauge not working all other lights work

If the tail lights, low fuel light, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge are not working, there could be several possible causes:
  1. Blown Fuses: Check the fuses for the tail lights, low fuel light, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge. If any of these fuses are blown, replace them with a new one.
  2. Loose or damaged wiring: Inspect the wiring for the tail lights, low fuel light, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge. Look for any loose connections or damaged wires. Repair or replace any damaged wires and ensure all connections are tight.
  3. Faulty sending units: The low fuel light and fuel gauge are connected to the fuel sending unit in the gas tank. The temperature gauge is connected to a temperature sending unit on the engine. Check these sending units for faults, and replace them if necessary.
  4. Faulty instrument cluster: The instrument cluster itself could be faulty, causing the temperature and fuel gauges to not work. A qualified mechanic can test the instrument cluster to see if this is the issue.
It's also possible that the trike has a separate electrical system for the tail lights, and that this system is malfunctioning. A qualified mechanic can test the trike's electrical system to determine the cause of the issue.

What's your question?fuel pump working but gauge nt working wts can be the cause.

Either the gauge itself, or the wire from gauge to tank, or the sending unit in the tank. Most of the time it is a problem with the sending unit.

They work like this: in the instrument cluster, a small voltage regulator sends low voltage through the gauge, into the wire to tank, and to the sending unit. The unit has a variable resistor that varies according to the fuel level, measured by the float arm attached to the unit. What it (the gauge) actually measures is resistance to ground-the current goes to a ground point after going through the variable resistor in the sending unit.

You can check if problem is the gauge or the sending unit by grounding the fuel gauge wire at the gas tank connector. Pull the electrical connector apart and locate the fuel gauge wire. Jumper that wire to ground on the frame while watching the fuel gauge needle for movement. DO NOT ground it for more than a split second, just touch to ground while someone watches the gauge. If the gauge needle moves at all (will probably go to full or empty), then the problem is the sending unit in the tank. The gauge is good, so is the wire from gauge to tank. I should mention that doing this test can possibly blow the meter (gauges) fuse in the fuse panel- why I said to do it just for a brief moment.

The temperature gauge in my ford festiva 1995 does not work. Is it relatively easy to replace the sensor and if so where is it located in this car? Thanks

Ground the temperature gauge wire to the engine using a jumper wire, then watch the temperature gauge needle. If the gauge now reads Hot, replace the temperature sending unit. Check the fuse for the temperature gauge circuit. If the fuse is good, check for voltage at the ignition terminal on the gauge with turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Using a voltmeter. If there is no voltage, there is a problem in the circuit between the ignition key and the gauge or the fuse panel and the gauge temperature. Fix the problem and test again. If there is voltage, replace the gauge.

I have had problem the gauge is not working on the manual or the electronic as well, I cant get a reading at all

Turn the ignition key to the on position and ground the temperature gauge wire to the engine using a jumper wire, then watch the temperature gauge needle. If the gauge now reads Hot, replace the temperature sending unit. Otherwise, check the fuse for the temperature gauge circuit. If the fuse is good, turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Using a voltmeter, check for voltage at the ignition terminal on the gauge. If there is no voltage, there is a problem in the circuit between the ignition key and the gauge or the fuse panel and the gauge temperature. Fix the problem and test again. If there is voltage, replace the gauge.

Guages not working,

If all voltages checked ok,then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected.Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok,then also it can be faulty.Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such prolem arises.
Also check the fuse box.One under hood and other under dash.Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.

I need to locate the fuse for my gas gauge in my 99 malibu

There is no fuse specific to the fuel gauge. The Instrument panel has two fuses that supply power to everything it has on it. The fuel gauge signal is received from the body control module which sends out a signal voltage to the fuel level sending unit. Depending on where the float in the tank in determines how much resistance the sending unit has. the body control module interprets the voltage value into a fuel level and sends a signal to the gauge.

If the gauge is not working the most common cause is the sending unit in the tank.

Is there a fuse for the fuel guage?

There is not specific FUSE for fuel gauge; check other components. This is so typical. Many gas gauges don’t work for simple reasons. In would strongly suggest you read this whole document before proceeding. You may want to attack this problem in a different way. Please bear with us. This is a very difficult thing to write. Just a note. Our cars are usually **** pretty well by the time we get them. Make sure your wiring under the dash is in good shape. If it’s not, I would suggest you start there. Having seen some of these chimpanzees at work, you’re liable to find anything under there. Maybe the problem. Most people are apprehensive with auto wiring. It is really quite simple and you can’t get hurt with it. Just remember your body is the ground, and the wires carry the voltage. BUT! There are a few ground wires under the dash too. So be careful when you splice something. Here are the components: Gauge assembly Sending Unit Wiring from fuel tank to dashboard. Dash wiring. Voltage Limiter (Regulator) There are FOUR of the most common problems. 1. Defective Dash Voltage regulator (Voltage limiter) or gauge 2. Lost of a ground at the sending unit 3. Break in the wire going to the dash 4. On some Chryslers, the Bulkhead connector on the firewall or connector behind kick panel. Less Common 1. Actual bad Sending Unit 2. Fuel Gauge defective Tools needed for the basics: Alligator Clip jumper (Make sure it works) Test light probe Radio Shack or equal Multi-meter If removing the gauge cluster, you will need a socket set, a couple of #2 Phillips screw drives and a pair of needle nose. Gas Gauge and Temp gauge doesn’t work. (Reason #1) Let’s ask a simple question here. Does the temp gauge work too? Both the Temp gauge and the fuel gauge use a voltage limiter. Given the way these cares were built, it is hard to get too get to that. But before we dig into this, check the fuse for the instruments. That fuse feeds the voltage limiter. In time, voltage limiters tend to go bad. If one burned out, it may have blown the fuse. Which in a way is a good thing. If the fuse is good and the temp and Fuel don’t work, then chances are it’s one of two things. Lost the ground or the limiter is bad. After you are sure the fuse is good, (Check it with the Key ON), we can go for the checking for a ground to the cluster. If your cluster is back lit, and the dash lights work, chances are you have a good ground to the dash. If it’s front lit like the Mopars of the early 70’s, then we need to check the ground. If you have any lights on the dash, oil light (Idiot Light) turn signal indicator and they work, then a ground is established. If all these things are good, then you have to go for the voltage limiter. This is where the fun starts. Depending on your brail skills, you should be able to at least find it on the back of the cluster. If you can’t, then you’ll need to remove the cluster. A good suggestion here is to make sure you have any other under Dash tasks on a list ready to be done. I strongly advise you disconnect the battery while removing the cluster. Once out, you can reconnect to finish your test.It looks something like this. Since you are going this far, it’s a good idea to just replace the regulator anyway. They are available from NAPA or any decent auto parts store. Most of those chains don’t know anything about it unless it’s in the computer. Remember, you are dealing with people that only need a license to breath in the big chains, Brains weren’t applied for. continue...

Gas gauge indicate empty when full

check the fuses and relay......these are the most common problems

1. Defective Dash Voltage regulator (Voltage limiter) or gauge
"make sure the gauge is actually receiving current"
2. Lost of a ground at the sending unit
"make sure it is grounded"
3. Break in the wire going to the dash
"chek it"
4. On some Chryslers, the Bulkhead connector on the firewall or connector behind kick panel.
Less Common
1. Actual bad Sending Unit
"it could be the filter"
2. Fuel Gauge defective
"in some causes, nothing is perfect, or premature wear or just ussual wear"
