You need to change the relay and the temp sensor switch. If you have done that the reason it's not coming on is probably because the coolant is not getting hot enough to cause it to come on. Let me explain. The coolant fan when the A/C is off is activated by the coolant fan switch. The switch closes when coolant temperature is over 238F completing a path to ground through the coolant fan relay windings. The relay contacts then close and voltage is applied to the coolant fan. When the coolant temperature drops to 214F, the switch opens and the coolant fan stops. In A/C equipped vehicles, the A/C control head completes a path to ground for the coolant fan relay whenever the A/C is on no matter what the temperature. Voltage is then applied to the coolant fan. Essentially, the coolant fan switch is by-passed when the A/C is on, which is why the fan works whenever you turn the A/C on. Now, if the fan does not kick in when the coolant temperature is over 238F but works when the A/C is on, the problem has to be the coolant fan switch or the connectors or wiring to the CFS.

The fan that works with the a.c on is called the auxillary fan. Theres the primary fan that should come on automatically. Check the temperature sensor it could be faulty. Locate the temperature sensor and disconnect it. If the fan comes on go ahead and replace the sensor.

could be bad temp sensor or bad wire connection to fan motor. to check fan; get 2 wires long enough to reach from connector plug of fan to battery., put one on hot and the other on ground and check fan motor. if good, then its either a relay or temp sensor or cut wire somewhere between temp sensor and fan motor. check to see if your getting power from battery to sensor/fan

Electric fan does not work
This can be due to a bad relay or coolant sensor that turns on the fan or a bad fan, a good test to do to see if the relay and the fan work is to start the engine and then turn on the ac, if the ac doesnt work then unplug the coolant temp sensor this will turn on the check engine light but it will reset when you restart engine, if the fan turns on then fan and relay are good and its the sensor, if the fan doesnt run then it may be the relay or fan, a quick test of the fan is to dissconnect plug to fan and run a power and ground wire to fan and if it runs then you have a bad relay,hope this helps,e0be4e7.gif

Hi!!

There should be a fuse/relay box in the engine compartment close to the battery, If your vehicle is equiped with two fans, there should be two relays. There has to be a cooling fan(if equiped with two) that comes in as soon as you turn the A/C on, is your vehicle has one fan, it has two speeds, when the A/C is turned on, the Hi speed kicks in. Sensors in this circuit that are relevant to this function are, Coolant Temp. Sensor, Engine Temp. Sensor.

Check fuses/relays for the cooling fan(s), if OK, check sensors.

2003 chevy cavalier cooling fan does not come on
ok heres a quick common thought of the day....ac triggers fan on ... fan comes on when it need to w/o ac on, so if it came on and shut off when you tapped on the fan, y would you think its a switch obviously the TEMP switch has nothing to do with the fans operation with the ac on... ok here try this, if the fan in your house wouldnt work when you turn it on, you tap on it it spins for a second then shuts back down, would you replace the wall socket? you verified the problem, tapping on the fan made it come on an shut back off so replace the fan ac is obviouosly commanding the fan on if you tapped it and it came on for a brief time, use ur noodle... you *******' that are misleading people who need help should be drug into the road and shot

Grand Am 4 cyl. Car - Fan does not turn on
there is no computer to turn the fan on. it works on a thermal switch. so you have a relay to the fan. when the temp sensor gets hot it connects the circuit to the relay and then the fan is on. vary simple. and it works when the car is still hot but the key has been turned off till the switch cools off or some have a timer so it does not run for ever. so good guess is the temp sensor for the fan could be bad if the fan is working.

Cooling fan wont work
The water temp sensor is located near the thermostat housing. This sensor is what tells the ECM to turn the fan on/off. The water temp sending unit is located near the same area. You know you have the correct sensor is because the water temp sensor has a 2 prong plug. The water temp sending unit only has 1 prong.
