2001 Subaru Forester with Rattling in engine

Hi.  We bought a 2001 Subaru Forester with 110,000 kms a week ago.  It looks immaculate and supposedly was well looked after.  We had it one day and then went on the highway.  A rattling sound or knocking sound happens as we start to take our foot off of the accelerator.  Hard to explain but when we take the foot right off the accelerator, the noise quits. Coasting along the highway is difficult because when we take the foot off the accelerator to coast, the noise starts up. If we are in town driving, slow speeds, the rattling seems to stop.  We rev up the engine and we can hear the rattle under the hood.  We think it is in  the engine.Had the car 2 days and this pops up.  Have no idea what it could be.  Help!!

Engine hestitation, 2000 subaru forester

I think these codes are indicating a fault with your catalytic converter. The 02 sensors are each not returning the correct values to the ECM, causing a "suspect the 02 sensors" fault code.

2001 subaru forester 225000 kms..how long do they typically last?

Provided the vehicle has been serviced regulary and had good quality oil and filters, theres no reason the car shouldn't get 400,000+ kms. Check its service history, and its oil consumption.

Engine make Knocking noise when cold

I have the same problem on my 2.0L 2001 Legacy auto. It began about 1000 miles ago. It has now done 84k. From my online searches this is most probably 'piston slap', and is not serious. To save weight Subaru shaved down the skirts on the pistons. With normal engine wear the pistons will at some point rattle against the cylinders until the engine is heated up and the pistons expand. The rattling should go away after a few minutes. If it persists say 10-15 minutes, it may be another problem.

2001 Subaru Forester - Engine Cut Off system?

This is for turbo equipped cars to allow the turbo to cool to a safe temperature before stopping it. A usual amount of time is approx 10 seconds of engine running at idle after driving the car hard.

Rattling sound when accelerating on 2007 Forester

On mine, I got under there and there are rocks rattling in the heat shield. There are factory made holes in it, and the rocks sit in there like eggs in a carton and rattle when the engine hits a certain vibration frequency which is basically when it is at a stop light or idling. The repair shop wanted to charge to cut them off but I think I am going to drill bigger holes so the rocks fall out, as they are pretty tiny.
