Year make and model ?
If one of the sensors fails the check engine light should come on.

SOURCE: 1997 isuzu wizard mu check light

Code 24 is a vehicle speed signal sensor fault, the sensor most likely does not provide a useable signal until about 25 MPH, when the computer doesn't see any signal after that speed it turns on the light. Make sense?

SOURCE: 1999 pontiac grand prix . will not run

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

SOURCE: HIGH IDLE, 1500rpm

No, its the intake manifold gasket.  This is a very common problem with the SL/SL1 engine.  There are only three bolts around the #1 cylinder and no bridge in the block between #1 and #2 cylinders.  The flexible factory gasket tends to pull out in this area.
A confirmation of this is to spray some carburetor cleaner, fuel injector cleaner or even WD40 on the gasket around the #1 cylinder and if it affects the idle in any way, its because its leaking.
Felpro makes a good replacement gasket.

SOURCE: 2005 AVEO - at idle the engine revs up and down

check your fuel cap when they start to go bad the pressure in the tank won't read and it will make it do that. and if it still does it then try cleaning the throttle body and the mass air flow sensor when they get dirty they can cause the same problem

I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7 engine. giving a code of P1299, say high air flow. which sensor is this?

The computer logs this code when the mass airflow sensor indicates more airflow than expected. Is the engine idling high? It could be that the idle air control valve is jammed open. Or, there could be another excessive air flow path downstream of the airflow sensor. Check all hoses connected to the inlet duct between the airflow sensor and the throttle body. Are any of them connected to the intake manifold?

could be a (tps)throttle position sensor also look at (maf)mass airflow sensor/(map)manifold absolute pressure sensor.(iac)idle air control valve...or and a bigger fix a leaking intake manifold gasket but will usually stall when stoping or idleing down.hope this helps so many possibilities but i hope this helps.please rate my answer, and thankyou for using fix ya.

Idle speed is too high on my Freelander 1.8 petrol. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it sits at 1500rpm although sometimes it sits at 3500rpm. In every other respect the engine performs...

The Idle air speed control of the car is starting to go or the Mass Air Flow sensor is starting to go. I would have the vehicle checked out by your local Mechanic. The HIgh RPM at 3500 on start up is going to cause internal damage to the engine over time. The engine oil can not circulate fast enough on initial start up to all the lubricating parts.

Idle problem

Try to disconnect the Air Flow Meter. It is the first plug just before the air filter/air intake box. If this improves your situation you will need to source a new or aftermarket Air Flow Meter.

2000 Subaru Legacy will not start

If you find that the engine is dying at intersections and runs a rough and fluctuating idle at start up, and you also sometimes lose power even though the engine is running then it is probably your Air Flow Meter or sometimes reffered to as a Mass Airflow Sensor. Eventually, as the AFM deteriates further you will no longer be able to start the engine as the ECU can no longer get accurate flow readings to work out air fuel ratios and shuts it all down to stop damage occuring. 2 ways to fix, replace AFM or upgrade your ECU to one that is capable of running MAPs for air fuel ratio, rather than using a sensor. Hope this helps.
