One of the improvement for Lotus Elise was the power (hydraulic) 5 speed manual clutch (something like power brakes) to make car to provide the faster responce. Thats probably wthat you have where
You might need to adjust it, replace the fluid or in a worsest scenatio to rebuild/replace the clutch.
Good Luck

Just to make myself clear. You need check for sticking or binding in the pedal linkage, cable, crossshaft, fork or pivot ball. Maybe you have a blockage or worn seals in the hydraulic system.

    Good luck

Car has difficulty going in gear even if pedel is fully down

The clutch is not fully disengaging. Adjust the clutch cable to obtain a 1/2 inch of free play at the top of pedal stroke. If clutch adjustment is not correct, damage to synchronizers or clutch release bearing will occur. Your clutch should begin to engage about an inch off the floor when releasing the clutch pedal.

I just put a new slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder on a 2003 Honda accord 3.0 V6 six speed and you can shift the gears without the clutch pedal pushed in or the car started

that is normal if the gear synchro dogs ( teeth) are in line in the box
problems concerning a clutch are
slashing gears when trying to engage first or reverse with the pedal to the floor ---needs bleeding
slipping when the clutch pedal is released--- slipping clutch from the pressure not being released ---problem in master cylinder
reverse gear is the only gear not synchronised so even with the clutch depressed it is possible sometimes that it will not go into gear unless you let the clutch up to move the gears in the box then attempt to re-engage reverse

Why does my clutch suddenly feel like its slipping on my merc capri xr2 turbo, engaging way to late after release of clutch pedal...hydraulic? mechanical? does it need a simple cable adjustment or flu

If you hit the gas in gear does it slip ? if its hydrolic and low fluid it wouldnt release the clutch you didnt put the year but i would have to go with adjusted at the tranny easy if thats the case also maybe the clutch is gone and theres a chatching point soyou dont mess up the flywheel those are spendy even used it engages the tranny starts the car and most importantly ballances the engine there for removing some metal could throw the balance way off

92 chevy z71 4wd pickup clutch slipping

it is very possible that the clutch master cylinder has malfunctioned
what happens in your case is that there is a compensating port in the cylinder that becomes blocked and when the clutch is released the fluid is pushed back by the pressure plate fingers
it has no where to go so so the plate is held in a partial or fully disengaged position causing it to slip
it would be good workshop practice to replace both the slave and master cylinder with new units then bleed the air out
it is a very common practice for mechanics to replace the clutch leaving the customer with an extra bill when all it was ,was the master cylinder

Peugeot 106 1.5D. the clutch was slipping so new clutch fitted 2 weeks ago. It was still slipping so that garage replaced the clutch again. Guess what? It is still slipping. Any idea what is going on?

Yes clutch pedal should start to drive about 1inch off the floor and when driving keep your foot away from the pedal,/ also when new clutch is fitted did they fit a complete clutch assy /and did they surface grind the flywheel as if it was badly worn on the 1st one then the new one wouldent last very long.
as when the clutch starts to drive 1" from the floor clutch is good /when it engages right out its buggered and slips so ask about the f/wheel

Clutch noise and stiffness

it sounds like your clutch release bearing has or is colapsing.when you press the clutch the release bearing is under the most load hence the noise.gearbox out i,m afraid. Can you still get gears ok ?.Also the pedal box,s are prone to break on polo,s ,the symptom for that is like a squashy pedal and hard to get gears.if you can look up at the top of the clutch pedal where the cable mounts see if the bracket the cable fits in to is broken away at the top.

When i put into gear and press on the gas and the clutch out the engin revs but the car goes no where. I HAVE SIMMILAR PROBLEM. CLUTCH PEDAL IS VERY HARD ENGINE RUNNING, CAN SHIFT BETWEEN GEARS WITH...

WITH ENGINE ON & RUNNING and you are able to shift to any & or all Gears and with this theres,
No Clutch Engagement Upon Releasing Clutch
With Info Provided seems that you have 1 or all 3
of the Fallowing and they all Should be Replaced as A Set even if on lt 1 of them has Failed
  1. Clutch Pressure Plate has Failed
  2. Clutch Disc Is Worn Down
  3. Clutch Release Bearing Has Failed
All Require Removal Of Transmission this is the reasoning for Replacing all as SET with the Labor cost if your replace only 1 Item, and 3 Months later another of the 3 components Fail, you have the same Labor cost to PAY.

This Solution is Answering the SOLE Question ask, Barring No other Problems have or did Happen such as Noises Ran out Of Trans Lube. if it is the Clutch that has Failed and you are unable to Perform the Repair yyourself, DO SHOP AROUND get 5 or more Estimates as the Fee Will Vary Sometimes very wide gaps in fee's
and also Try and Purchase the Parts yourself Due to the Tremendous Markup of parts at Shops
