Engine running rough, sounds like it's only firing on 2 cylinders, no power when driving, can hardly pull away, engine sounds rough all through the rev range, spark plugs ok, coilpacks ok, with code reader, only comes up with random engine miss fire. please help
Check out the AboutAutomobile.com site for NHTSA complaints. I believe there was a defect in the cylinder heads for this engine. The redesigned heads have a different suffix letter than the stock heads.
For a time, the Manufactuer was paying for the repair.

you have the cam and crank sensors to check. also driving like this can ruin the cat so that should be checked as well. and the o2's. the cam and crank sensors can be checked on a scanner or scope or check there resistance if you have what the resistance values should be. there are other things that can cause this a fuel filter clogged up to many things but check the cam , crank sensors and items like fuel filter ect plus cat and o2's they should be swithcing when repair is done above and below 500 rich to lean lean to rich. make sure they are not stuck.

The cylinder is not getting fuel, spark or compression. You have already checked for spark on that cable and it appears to be good. Pull the spark plug and see if it is damaged. You can also switch spark plug and cable to another cylinder and see if the miss travels with the plug and or cable. If so, you'll know its the spark plug/cable that is bad.
You can check for fuel by listening to the fuel injector to see if it clicks. Use an automotive stethoscope or a long screwdriver--put the metal end of the screwdriver on the injector and the other end against your ear and listen to the injector while the engine is cranking or running. You should hear it click for each time it pulses fuel.
If both fuel and spark are good, then you are probably missing compression in that cylinder. You (or a mechanic) will need to pull all the spark plugs and do a engine compression test with a compression test/gage set. Lots of things can lead to poor or zero compression including: broken piston rings, burned/stuck/broken valves, cracked cylinder head or engine block, cracked pistons, etc.
Because one cylinder is "dead", the engine has to work extra hard to start and run against a cylinder that is dragging it down. If you find low/no compression in that cylinder, you will probably have to remove the cylinder head to correct it. A big expensive job. It may be cost effective to replace the whole engine with a rebuilt one.

Finally sorted my miss fire problems, It was a few things causing the engine 2 mmiss fire, I replaced the N75 waste gate valve 2 the turbo, I also found the secondary air pump (egr valve) was also stuck, which i took apart & cleaned & got the valve 2 release, also on the inlet manifold where the vaccum pipes connect, had a small amount of oily dirt which i just pulled out with a small pick tool, i also replaced all 4 coilpacks + replaced all 4 sparkplugs. Now my engine runs better than ever
Thank you 4 your help mate, I am not a machanic but i do repair my own cars, I had recently put a new oil pump in a couple of months ago, so was abit worried about the damage i may of caused, with the old pump going on me, cos i had 2 drive it home like it, obversaly taking it very easy, but 20 miles, thought that was it with the engine, but thought it was worth trying just incase it could be saved, i was very lucky. Thanks 4 your time :) Most appreciated :)
