How to repair transmission? Transmission is a little rough shifting when accelerating. Sometimes when I put it into reverse it hesitates and then slams into gear. I get a P0733 code.

Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

2004 cavalier transmission rough shift

That intermittent rough shift would be caused by the computer.Disconnect the ground post from battery for a couple of days so the computer will reset back to OEM specs when recharged after the battery is re-connected.Computers just need time to "forget"what they were doing and will reset.

My transmission jumps very abruptly when I shift to reverse in my 2003 Ford Escape, V6, 3.0 engine. What is the cause

I usually don't work on the transmissions, but when a Torque converter stays in the lock-up mode I understand that you get rough shifts. The lock-up mode is often advertised as a "gear" but when a Torque converter goes into that mode, there is no slippage and it is considered directly connected to the pumps inside the trans.

This would result in over pressurization of the trans fluid. You might be able to have an external pressure check done in a trans shop. Sometimes the Torque converter has an electric lock-up and they can diagnose this.

Sounds like you need the updated engine computer for harsh shifting. Look up under the glove box at the computer. Number should be 89661-02K21 if not, you need the update. It is an 8/80 warranty item.
