I bought my 16 year old a 1989 Oldsmobile Regency 88. Recently I have replaced the battery and starter. I put gas in it 2 days ago and about twice a day it will stall while driving, then when try to start it sputters like it's not getting gas. Takes several tries to restart, then you have to really gun the gas to keep it started, it backfires, etc once it's started, then evens out. Any ideas?
Hi All your love, Lucky boy, The vehicle is fairly old and I suspect it has a points and condenser ignition system. Renew the points and replace the condenser. Set the gap to .45 mm and then set up the firing position by loosening the distributor locking base and setting it at 6 degrees before top dead center. I think it is not a fuel problem but instead, ignition timing. Regards John

sounds like there's too much of a load on the engine. try a complete tune-up.

Checkk the EGR system for the EGR valve should open when the engine gets to operating temperature. If not the engine will stall out

check all your vacuum lines for any restrictions. invest in a chassis manual (ebay) read every page. could be a simple fuse or relay. have the codes read, fix all yhd
