Roof works only when repeatedly pressing the button crx transtop

Most often it is just gummed up with soda syrup. spray a little armor all into the mechanism and let it sit for a few minutes, then operate the mechanism. repeat until it works smoothly again, making sure to wipe any excess fluid up. Hope this helps.

It will not show up with a typical P code from Autozone. It might show up with a dedicated code reader for specifically BMW. My code reader with BMW extended program does not show it. To trouble shoot this without a BMW code reader, try your buttons first, if you do not hear a motor noise, then you need to check if motor is getting power when button is pressed. Take of access panel in center of roof forward near rear view mirror. You will be able to access the motor there. Probe the electrical connections going to the motor and have someone push the buttons. Review the meter while buttons are pressed to see if motor is getting approx. 12 volts. If so then the motor may be dead. If there is not activity at the motor as far as 12 volts, then you have an electrical supply issue which could be several options: Electrical wiring, loose plug somewhere, a bad fuse (most common), a bad switch (probably not if both switches do not respond to electrical test), or a bad relay. Remember to check the truck are for the roof storage panel. If this is in the up position it will not allow enough roof for roof the store in truck and will not allow roof to move, retract.

it can only be 3 things.
1: no power to motor (12v not there active or is too low)
2: bad motor. 12v there its dead.
3: jammed up track overloading said motor.
a voltmeter solves #1 and 2 in seconds.

Try when closing, hold button for 5 seconds when already closed and attempt to open. If it opens all of the way. Keep button depressed and hold button when it gets all of the way open,hol for 5 additional second and repeat this open and closed. This will tell the body sunroof ecu Walt the travel limits are

replace the whole thing its track is broken

More then likely the Sunroof drive motor is the problem. The armature brushes are worn out.

the moon roof tilts it does not slide,the click is to tell you that its open...you can tell if its a slider if the headlining has a downward bulge in it.some markets do both,

If your transtop roof has just failed.Try this reset,turn ignition OFF,Remove back up fuse under bonnet,7.5amp number 32 for 20secs.replace fuse this will reset roof control unit.

CLOSE THE WINDOW AND KEEP BUTON DEPRESED FOR ANOTHER 20 SEC. REPEAT THIS IN ALL OTHER WINDOWS AND SUNROOF
