Valet Key Doesn't Start Engine

Just purchased a 2002 VW Jetta Wagon that came with both a remote starter key and a Valet Key. Problem is, the Valet Key doesn't seem to start the motor! The engine turns over, it just doesn't keep running but stalls out after a second. Otherwise, there are no problems with starting the Jetta. Is this a security feature? Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like the chip in the key is not allowing the security system to allow the car to start. You may need a new key from the dealer.

SOURCE: Turn ignition key but won't start..All power on, is it starter?

Can be a Junk Relay, access is limited, but giving the Starter a "crack" with a mallet, often cures the problem temporarily. But check the Battery terminals, and Cable to the Starter solenoid ,first for tightness and security.

SOURCE: lost remote key to vw beetle. how do i start my

im assuming you mean the little black emergency key.
just unlock the drivers door with it that should deactivate the alarm
then use it to start the engine im also assuming that it still has the factory fitted alarm on it and not a third party alarm any more problems get back to me Hope this helps

Can vw jetta tdi mechanics key used incorrectly cause the car not to start?

If you mean the valet key, no. I use that key frequently in my 2001 TDI.
Only the ignition switch has a receiver to identify the chip in the key fobs but the valet key has the chip also.

2002 vw jetta vr6 no start no crank, but able to pop start

Start by checking the switch above the clutch pedal ... I have seen where they come loose, brake or move and when you push in the clutch it doesn't engage the safety switch all the way.

you can buy a factory vw key on ebay and have the dealer program it to your alarm. i had to do it that way when my key broke. it is cheaper than a new one from the dealer. type 01 jetta factory key on ebay.

Side door lock on 2000 VW Beetle

the dealer gave you a ignition key, instead of valet key.
valet key should open the driver door and ignition. nothing else. if the key can't ope the door. try the trunk. if it open the trunk, the it is a wrong key.
