1996 Ford E-350 van with 7.5L intermittantly acts like ignition is totally cutting out for about a tenth of a second when at idle or under slight throttle. Intermittant individual cylinder missing under WOT acceleration. Only 45,000 miles on the vehicle which is driven mainly on short trips in tropical location.

My 95 E-350 does the exact same thing! Will start here...I've done EXTENSIVE research on this problem. Since we have the same thing exactly down to the PCM not communicating to the "scan tool".
I'm going to get a fuel pressure reading from the fuel rail just inside the the motor cover. Warnings associated with this type of test!

Too much pressure can "load up" the cylinder and produce a "random" misfire. I can start my e-350 fine and it seems as though the problem starts 100 seconds after it has been sitting for some period of time longer than a couple of hours. Also it doesn't matter if it's a super cold day or warm. After the van say builds up fuel pressure 100 sec after running you can cut if off immediately and begin all over again. The problem shows immediately. I would say this is not a warm or cold thing and not an EGR thing. No EGR in neutral / park and this is were we see it plus in overdrive or cruising in 3rd with minimal load. Makes sense doesn't it. We'll see after i go and purchase a fuel pressure gage set.

I got the codes from the self
test watching the dash light and came up with the EGR Position Sensor.
I replaced that and no change. After another forum answer.cars guy said
to replace it....but didn't explain why i was getting the "miss" while
in park/neutral. EGR doesn't flow in park/neutral! Just wanted my
money. Also spent 1k for distributor/plugs and other maintenance with
no change. So I have also replaced the EGR solenoid as well. Gone down
that EGR road. Started to think it's my coil or ignition after thinking
that i loose volt at that vacume can just to the left of the EGR
solonoid while this "miss" occurs. I put my vac tester on the top
nipple which when this can opens up will allow vac to pass through.
When the miss happens i loose vac instantanously since the can looses
    power.
Also thought this could be an ECM problem like you since my
"X-Ray" brand scanner will not work on this van. However works on my
other cars fine??? What fixed your E-350 please tell !!!

One thing i can say is the fuel pressure test where you turn the key and the pump should produce pressure in the line before starting does give the pressure. However this pressure should stay UP steady for no less than 5 minutes so the manual says. My pressure falls immediately after returning the ignition to previous state.

So i thought i might send my injectors to mr.injector.com to get them diagnosed and repaired. Report listed bad patterns but NO leak down on any of them. So what would cause the fuel pressure to drop? Could this be the fuel pressure regulator even thought when i did the vac test on the regulator it changed pressure in relation to vac being added and removed. I would rather replace these items before going to the tank to replace the fuel pump. thanks!

Check the EEC-IV engine control module. The 90's era modules develop leaky capacitor(s) on the circuit board and fail. I also replaced most parts on the engine with no change. Finally discovered there was a problem with these modules. Remove the module from the firewall where the main wire harnesses connect. Take off cover and examine the circuit board. Look for the tell tale signs of the leaking capacitor(s) including a fluid stain ring around it on the circuit board and green crud corrosion where it solders onto the board. Mine caused erratic misses about every 20-30 seconds at idle and random misses under load on grades...and stalling once in a while at idle. I had it rebuilt for $216 and it runs normal again.

all fine now,, Spend a fortune up till this point.. plugs, wires, injectors, relays, coil, EGR, o2, exhaust manifolds....urgh

Wish I could answer your question, then I would have my problem solved. I have a 1994 For E-350 w/ 460 engine & exactly the same problems. Replaced all the same items as you explained, still have the same problem. If you find the problem, please let me know. This is also a Rockwood Motor Home. Very frustrating. I cannot even find a Ford Dealer to check out the computer on this thing, they are always to busy .

Check the EEC-IV engine control module on it. The early to mid 90's control modules develop over time a problem with leaking capacitor(s) on the circuit board. This will cause a seeming random miss at idle and under load. I replaced about every part on the motor without success until I read a post about it. Remove the EEC module from the firewall in the engine compartment and open the top plate. Look for the tell tale signs of a leaking capacitor including a fluid ring around it on the circuit board and green crud corrosion where it solders onto the board. I had mine rebuilt for $216 and it runs great again. The capacitors go bad over time and eventually leak. Have all 3 (in my case one of 3 had leaked) replaced if you have it done.

1995 Ford e350 460 cranks but no spark or fuel

Hello Anita
I remember seeing this post! I think I may have answered it but not sure. It may be a glitch, we do get posts vanish. The reason I remember is because I have been helping a guy called Ed Z with his E350 motorhome. Tag yourself on his post and introduce yourself. He is very capable at fixing his engine.

Motorhome runs 2 miles down highway then will sputter. I put shifter in neutral then turn ignition off then back on and the engine runs great for another 2 miles and it happens again.

I had this problem, it was water in the gas tank from condensation from sitting .
I had to replace the gas tank which had rusted through, and have a supply of fuel filters to change regularly, I also had to regularly add additive to the tank to absorb moisture ( I think they didn't work).
I surely hope that is not your fix, but it was mine.
God bless your efforts.

Ford 460 engine

You did not supply the year of the engine. Many defects are picked up by the self-diagnostics in models which have self-diagnostics.

You may not notice that the engine is still missing at higher speeds. One of the tests that can be run is a cylinder-balance test. This electronic test systematically disables individual cylinders and shows how much power each cylinder is contributing to engine power. It will pinpoint the problem cylinder.

It is a lot easier than removing each plug to examine misfires. A Noid light is a tester for fuel injector harnesses. A Ohmmeter can test the fuel injector for continuity.

Once you get a cylinder balance test, it will reduce the testing time and you can concentrate on 1 cylinder.

Ck engine light is on and miss fire #5

There are few possibilities that can cause engine misfire issues. It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.

Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.
