SOURCE: 2006 vw jetta tdi service engine light reset

With the key in the ignition (but not turned), press and hold the Odometer Reset Button on the right hand side of the panel. While still holding that button, turn the key (although not far enough to start the engine) and then press and hold the Minute button on the left side of the instrument pane(if pressing doesnt work try turning the knob clockwise until service light has gone off and skip the pressing)l. Release both buttons at the same time.

SOURCE: transmission fluid check on a vw jetta tdi

Never ever bring a jetta to a volkwagen dealer. They will bend you over and rape you.

All you have to do is remove the top plug with a hex wrench.

SOURCE: Key fob needs reset 2006 VW jetta TDI

I hope this might help. -- I had the same problem yesterday and fix the problem today. The steps on the manual (page 32) was too simple and wrong for my case. Read carefully the followint steps and thank me if these steps work. -- JB (owner of Jetta 2.5, 2006 model)

* The most important thing is to make sure that the LED in the driver side window frame stays blinking. The blinking means that the receiver has entered a programming mode and is waiting for the signal from the key. Good luck!

1. Insert the key with a faulty remote into the driver door lock and turn the key to the UNLOCK position 3 times in succession for at least 0.5 seconds each time, and within a total duration of 5 seconds.
: The system should now enter so called a "programming mode" and the window frame LED should blinking once every 1~2 seconds for the next 15 seconds. The faulty remote must be programmed during this period.

2. Aim the key to the (infrared) window frame LED which can be considered as a key signal receiver and press the lock button of the key fob and keep it pressed. While the button is pressed, press the unlock button three times in succession for at least 0.5 seconds each time.
3. Release both buttons.

* After all the efforts described above, the system should now acknowledge a successful programming by flashing the LED once every 1~2 seconds for more than 10 seconds. (Someone said that the small LED on the key fob should also blink a few times; although it didn't in my case.)

Should a 2002 jetta tdi- automatic at 87,000 miles

That specific transmission is known for failure. Sometimes it's premature failure (in your case) and sometimes they have 150k miles, but that specific automatic transmission will always fail.
There are plenty of stories online about premature failure of the 01M VW transmission...
