What happened is I hit a pothole going about 65mph THEN ALL LIGHTS inside and outside car died for a moment and then came back on. IMMEDIATELY the car started acting up; overheat, throttle. The ODOMETER LIGHT never came back on. BABIED IT HOME

I appreciate all your input and am understanding a little more.

My guess is that it overheated while you where sitting in traffic and since the fan couldn't come on the vehicle overheated. With the transmission codes and all that you have going on I'm afraid there isn't such a thing as a quick fix. How bad did it overheat and did the misfire codes come before or after overheating? Im trying to determine if you could possibly have a head gasket issue.

It seems like we are forgetting that the vehicle overheated and there's something wrong with the fan. Add to that the trans codes plus the cat conv code plus the misfires and you are looking at hours of diagnosis plus repairs.

Overheating, Try this procedure:

  • Dirt and debris can get lodged in the radiator air flow paths. This can block the radiator and cause your engine to overheat and damage the engine.

  • The thermostat can be stuck close. If you feel the upper hose very hot and the lower hose cooler than normal, it may be a stuck thermostat.

  • Make sure the radiator and the overflow bottle are filled to the proper levels.

  • Bleed air from the coolant system:This is best done by running the engine with the radiator cap off until you see when the air bubbles stop coming up.

  • Check the radiator fans: The easiest way is to turn on the cars air conditioner and turn up the A/C fans. Both radiator fans should come on when the A/C starts

  • Make a pressure test by using a pressure testing tool (available at most auto parts stores). Use the pressure shown on your radiator cap. Most cars are 16 PSI or less, so don't exceed that pressure. Replace the radiator cap if it doesn't hold the pressure.

Hi, the likely problem is that your torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid has failed and will no longer engage the clutch. However, it may be worth a try to have your transmission fluid flushed and the filter replaced, if you haven't done that recently. There is some small chance that will fix the problem. The TCC is a device in the transmission that locks the engine to the transmission once you reach highway speeds of at least 25 mph or higher. The purpose of the clutch is to conserve fuel and reduce heat in the torque converter. The car will run fine without the TCC, but will get slightly less highway mileage. There is no harm or safety concern with driving the car as it stands now. However, if you intend to keep this car and drive a lot of highways miles, it may be worth the expense to have it repaired. (you could check your mileage to see how it's doing without the clutch) The repair should be done by a transmission expert, as there are several possible reasons it has failed--I'm only guessing it's the solenoid but would HAVE to troubleshoot to be sure. The repair can be done by any reputable transmission shop--it does not have to be done at the Cadillac/GM dealer. That said, I do recommend you shop around a bit if you want to have the car repaired, as there is considerable variation in the approach to this repair. It is possible to replace the solenoid without removing the transmission, but some shops may claim you need a complete rebuild. Make sure to tell them your trouble codes--that was very helpful to me. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Trouble Code: P0741 TCC System Stuck Off - Mechanical (4L80-E)
Possible Causes:

ATF level is too low, or the fluid is burnt or contaminated Inspect transmission lines to radiator for bends or restrictions Oil pressure screen is clogged or debris in the oil pan TCC control valve is stuck "off" due to sediment or binding TCC regulator valve is stuck "off" due to sediment or binding TCC feed valve is stuck "off" due to sediment or binding TCC solenoid valve O-ring or turbine shaft seals leaking or cut

Trouble Code: P1860 TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit Malfunction (4T80-E)
Possible Causes:
TCC solenoid control circuit is open or shorted to ground TCC solenoid control circuit is shorted to system power (B+) TCC solenoid power circuit is open (check the TRANS fuse) TCC solenoid is damaged or has failed PCM has failed

1. Check and replace if necessary the Camshaft Position Actuator B Bank 2. Bank 2 is the left side cylinder block bank, (driver's side for LHD vehicles). Also see if the variable camshaft mechanism movement is all right, and nothing can block it. The codes 16408 and 16684 must be eliminated definitely!
2. Then test the engine. If the code 16689 = Cylinder 5 - misfire detected, still occurs, check the spark plug, ignition coil and injector. Replace bad piece(s). The code 16689 must be eliminated definitely!
3. The codes 16805 = Warm Up Catalyst Bank-1, Efficiency Below Threshold, and 16815 = Warm Up Catalyst Bank-2, Efficiency Below Threshold, are caused by the misfires sending unburned fuel into the exhaust, and will be erased from Engine Control Module memory.

Test the car and send me back if everything is OK, or if any DTC code still remains.
Good Luck!

Cannot diagnose or run temp. Sealer for what i believe is head blown because car wont start it cranks but sputters and kills battery?

Sounds like head gasket again, but may be more serious this time. Overheating is not something to take lightly.

Pull plugs. crank. Water come out of cylinders? Head gasket. Possible cracked block or head this time, too. I'd be looking at a replacement engine.

Trouble codes

Hi Sandra!
The trouble codes listed are defined as:

P0141 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

P0331 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2)

PO300 & PO331 are possibly symptomatic of issues caused by PO141, which would have a direct influence on the air/fuel mxture... which could cause missing and knocking.

So the first thing I would try is replacing the Bank 2 Oxygen Sensor, after making sure the wiring and connections to that sensor are in good shape.

Does the engine show any physical issues such as loosing coolant, smoking exhaust, overheating? A blown or leaking head gasket on the #2 bank could also present these (among other)
codes.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!
