Yes the Throttle Position Sensor needs replaced.

Why would you ever replace a throttle body ?

It is just a casting & a TPS Sensor

Tune-Up --- as in spark plugs?
What would that do?

Who is doing that work on your car?
What is the real problem in some detail?

Its usual for the Lambda sensors to cause this if faulty!!

I would be the last one to argue with a computer, but throttle body is a stretch. If you were not getting gas, the Mazda would simply not start.

I am guessing here but I would say that the fuel pump should be checked. I do not know if you have had a tune up lately. A 4-8 cylinder car will act the same way if 1-2 plugs are not firing or firing in the wrong order. Are you sure the wires are as they should be and the firing order is correct?

If the order is wrong, then all bets are off. The engine will pop, surge, stop, hard to start, not start at all. I would need more info to be of more help. I can solve your problem, but I need more info from you.

hey, I own an 04 v6 mazda 6 as well and recently had that same problem. Its an ignition coil. The thing is that you have to wait until the check engine light comes on to know whick cylinder it is. I replaced all my spark plugs and boots all at once thinking it would solve the problem but it didnt work. It takes a while for the light to come on so what I did was to push my engine and make it come on. Hopefully its one of the the three coils in the front or else it would be a pain to get the back three. Each coil will run you about 50-80 dollars. Call me if you have any questions. Hello, I would change the fuel filter especially if it's never been changed to your knowledge and if the car runs great up untill 4200rpms. If the filter is starting to plug then it will fell boggy and possibly jerky because the motor is being starved for fuel.
