I've cleared this code with my obd2 and in a couple of days it will pop up again. as well I now have system too lean bank1 and maf sensor come up all the time
When you get these messages it meant sthe control module for this system has detected a fault, you must have the system scanned with a special toot to see what fault code(s) is in memory
Testimonial: "Thank you I have been to a mechanic who worked for gm and he use his code reader on my truck ,results:No code came up showing any problems that explained why my truck is showing these codes. His reader is tops, any more ideas would be very helpfulTHANK YOU"

code po 171 system lean on bank one on 2002 buick lasabre
SOURCE: check engine light
this is very common on these. the upper intake seals leak and should be replaced. It is not a noticable vacuum leak and is usually worse when the engine is cold. It is not a very difficult job to do
SOURCE: OBD2 code P0171 MAF sensor too lean
The maf sensor is either dirty, or needs replacing. Try cleaning it first.
Disconnect the black tube from the air filter housing, and the sensor housing, there should be a thin wire going across inside, get a can of air intake cleaner (at any auto parts store) and spray it in there, be very careful when you wipe that wire off. wipe off any excess cleaner inside.
If the same problem still exists, change the sensor.
SOURCE: my 2001 cadillac deville keeps giving me dtc code system to lean
Anytime I get a too lean DTC I first change the fuel filter if it hasn't been changed in awhile. You'd be surprised how many times this has helped.
Good Luck with it.

Hello
When the service engine
soon light (Also called the check engine light) is turned on this is
to alert you to the fact that Powertrain Control Module (computer)
has detected a failure somewhere in the systems it controls, this can
be the transmission or the engine or emission system, there are fault
codes set in the modules memory for these faults. What needs to
happen now is to have the powertrain control module scanned with a
special tool called an OBD2 electronic engine control scanner or a
OBD2 code reader. Once the code(s) are read then you must perform the
diagnostics for each code and make the appropriate repairs based on
the findings of the diagnosis that was performed, this is called
doing "Pinpoint" testing.
