SOURCE: How to Turn off Service Traction Control and ESC messages

I had this problem with my 2007 HHR. I drove away with the service engine and the service traction light on. The car was stuttering through the gears. I took it back and they checked it. They disconnect some wires while they change the oil and one was loose. The service engine turned off but the service traction stayed on. We disconnected the battery for 3 minutes and it fixed the problem. Some of those other guys spent up to 300 dollars to fix the problem. Hope it works out for you.

SOURCE: Chevy HHR 2008 LT 2.4. Message ESC OFF, SERVICE

Hello and welcome. the engine reduce power waraning is the key to the other problems. this is normally a problem with the electronic throttle system. the engine control module disables the traction control system when it detects a engine problem, in your case a problem with the electronic throttle system. you shouldnt drive with this concern. this is normally covered under the vehicles 100,000 mile warranty. you need to conteact your nearest dealer for help

SOURCE: what can i use to

your brake caliper or calipers, may be sticking.when you drive it at night, for say 10 miles, then look at the fronf wheels,do you see a fire red glow behind the wheel on the brake caliper.? easy way to tell.jack the car up with the emergency brake on. pump the brakes with engine running, with the transmission in neutral? can you spin the tires by hand? if not, then you have a sticking brake caliper, which will burn the brakes up fast.eventually, the brake caliper will "lock" and then you will not be able to move the car in any gear.if you suspect bad brake caliper, replace both front brake rotors and calipers with new brake pads. easy way to eliminate the brake problems.if you replace the brake calipers and pads only.the rotors may still be warped due to all the heat that occured with the bad brake calipers. you will have a bad steering wheel vibration when braking otherwise. thank you,for choosing fixya.com!

2008 Chevy HHR warning on Dash says "SERVICE ESC"

When you figure it out let me know! I drive an HHR as a service vehicle it does the same thing with an activation of the brakes in the front to "correct" a problem that is not there. About a year ago it had an engine code that indicated the intake valve timing solenoid was not working correctly, I got a new one from NAPA and replaced it. For whatever reason (I have found no connection between the two systems) the "Service ESC" problem has nearly disappeared. The message and associated front end shutter would occur 3 or 4 times a month but since replacing the solenoid it has only occurred 1 or 2 times.

Had my tired rotated, since then my Service ESC light comes on along with the brake "brake fluid" light comes on. I'm not sure if it something serious or i just need to unhook my battery and reset it.

check brake fluid level and make sure no leaks if low fill to proper level and check brakes it low change them as to esc when tires were changed workers may have hit sensor or damaged wiring by front end or a bad sensor sometimes rarely some hhr owners state a hiccup and reset the computer and it was fine but before you do that check and make sure brake system is correct and safe usually brake resets itself when repair or fluid is corrected

2011 Chevrolet HHR ESC

This is pretty common and is usually caused by metallic particles stuck to the magnetic encoder on the wheel speed sensor. GM has issued a service bulletin about it.

At low speeds while turning the steering wheel and applying the brakes there is a grinding noise coming from the front brakes. It's the same noise when the brakes are applied in the snow on slippery...

you need to check to see if the new brake pads have been fitted correctly, some brake pads may go on either way & the metal side is on the rotor......hope this helps......cheers.

On my 2002 cavalier, replaced front pads. compressed calipers without opening bleeder ( my mistake!). Now I have no pressure on left rear and front right wheels. It has anti-lock brakes. Thanks

You are not suppose to open the bleeders when replacing the brake pads. After pad removal you compress the pistons into the calipers and install new pads after cleaning and lubing the slides. Then just pump the pedal til it comes back up.Usually takes about 3 or 4 pumps.Make sure you didn`t break a brake line.If there were any problems with the anti lock brakes the light would come on.Hope this helps.Let me know.Good luck.
