This car has had a MAJOR overhaul of All systems by a TRUSTED mechanic. The car will run fine for some time ( maybe weeks) and then develope a slight miss that gets worse. Its worse as you take off from a stop. If you stop the car for about 5 min. it will start right up and run fine for about 50 miles or so and it starts up again. At some point the engine will stall, but it wiill start up after a few mininutes and run fine again for a while and then it starts again, All tune up items, sensors etc were replaced during the overhaul, inc. the computor. The fuel system was also gone thru. Help Please.
HI AND WELCOME TO FIXYA
there can be several reasons, I am afraid without more information it is going to be hard to narrow it down,
start with a tune-up. spark plugs, wires, and a new PCV will help find the issue, also do not opt for the cheapest parts here, autolite AP104 plugs and at least middle priced wires will be your best bet since it will last you quite a long time if done right and if the parts are good quality you won't hve to worry about them causing other issues
next look for unplugged or broken vacuum lines, it may take quite some effort to look at each line but patience will help
if that does not find the problem then you are going to want to start with the electrical, look for unplugged sensors and corroded wires, is there a check engine light on? if so try to get a OBDII scanner (some parts stores loan them for free) and see what codes are coming up
If there was a major Overhaul on this vehicle, you need to have the head checked to make sure that the bolts are torqued to the right pressure. The same goes for your lifters as well. You also need to check your timing belt to make sure the first cylinder is top center before you start the car. The Mechanic should know what to do with the timing belt and how to adjust the gears so that your first cylinder is top center.
Hi, This sounds like a vaccum leak at the intake. This can be confirmed by spraying a bit of starting fluid in this area with the car at idle. It will pick-up when you find the spot! Frankster016
Hi, This is really a strange prob!! Now I'm into the guessing mode. From what you have already done and spent, I would like to see the ground wires checked! Esp the one between the engine an body. A simple way to check is to check for warmth at the connections. But best remove the mounting screws, clean. A very handy tool is a laser temp gun, it will spot probs so fast.Frankster016

You ignition amplifier is overheating internally.
Unfortunately, this is a VERY common failure to Jags with the 12. I've observed this all too often. I have replaced several amps on the 12s in the past... Expensive, but necessary.
If the amp is "new", take it back, it is probably bad.
Check ur fuel pump for any leakages and also clean the fuel filters

In addition to the previous comments: The fuel system was rebuilt at the same time as the rest of the car. Since that time the fuel filter has been changed and the fuel delivery and pressure was also checked and found to be within specs.
Thanks, but this car doesn't have a ignation amplifer. the earlier cars with the Lucus ign. did, but this engine is equipped with the Morelli (spelling) ign. system
