You have a tilt steering wheel! This is a problem with most GM tilt wheels. There is 3 or 4 screws you need to have tightened up; which requires tearing down the steering to get to them and put lock tight on them and tighten them back up, so they will not happen again for a long time.

Can not select any gears to move tractor. need to know of possible cause for shaft to be locked in one position

depending on model. could be the link catch has come loose and just moving up and down of the grip. or the clutch engaging mechanical switch is not working so wont allow gears to be moved. can also be low gear oil, or even water in the gearbox this would corrode the top and stop gear movement.

WHY IS FRONT SEAT SLIPPING

Check the seat rails for foreign objects. When you lock the seat in position, try pushing lever down to lock position. (If you pull up on lever to move seat, push it down) If it stays locked when lever is pushed down, check the spring that pulls the lever down.

My steering column is locked in the down position any suggestions?

Reach down under the center of the steering column assembly, centered on the column just below knee height is a lever that pulls down and away. Pull the lever, move the steering column back to where you want it then re-engage the lever until flush with the surrounding fascia panel.

How to troubleshoot loose steering wheel column on my 97 mercedes e320

It appears by you description that the position lock is not clamping up. position the wheel where you want it and look just under the dash for a lever or knob that will tighten up and hold the column in place.

1987cadallic deville steeringwheel

Hi,

Usually, vehicles with tilt adjust steering, have a small lever just under the steering wheel column. Pulling this lever out, unlocks the wheel. Pushing lever back in, locks the wheel.

Have a look for a lever of this type and once you find it, have your Dad hold the steering wheel at his preferred position, then push the locking lever back up, to lock the wheel in place.

Let me know if you resolve this.....

Cheers,

remove the shroud around the column and have a good look at what has gone wrong ,fault could be a multitude of different things and without a good look its not possible to diagnose exactly what is wrong

Okay, my boyfriend owns a 2000 ford f-250 super duty and your prolly wondering as to why im asking about this instead of him ... well im more mechanically inclined then he is lol funny huh... okay heres...

It sounds like the shift tube bushings are worn out. There are usually 2 u shaped clamps that have nylon bushings that hold the shift tube to the steering clumn. If loose, that throws off the shift position, could be btween 2 gears at once, and throws off the park - neutral safety switch. Fix that first.
