locate the temp sensor and disconnect it from the electrical connector. This should drop the gauge to zero. if this doesn't happen then you have a short in the circuit. if gauge drops, then replace sensor
Mr BERRY, the engine of PASSAT has one temperature sensor and it has a color either green or blue. it is situated where the thermostat is. Now depends what problem you have,be more specific to see what I can do for you. Looking forward to hear from you.
Engine coolant temp sensor should be on the drivers side of the
engine block. Follow your top radiator hose from the radiator to the
engine block. near that you should see a sensor (it has a clip on it
where the wires attach).
THE 4.9L ENGINES COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS ON THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING. WHICH IS LOCATED BEHIND THE DISTRIBUTOR. THE 4.6L ENGINES COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS LOCATED ON THE BACK SIDE ENGINE THE SIDE FACING TOWARD THE FIREWALL BELOW THE EGR VALVE.
sounds like the gauge and sensor r workin properly....but you do have to address that coolant leak...that causes your temp to fluctuate cuz you cooling capacity is being reduced
The Coolant temp Sensor is located right under the top radiator hose (on the engine side), with a little black connector!, You might have to remove th etop hose to get to it with a deep socket and extension!.
Also Dont Forget to blled the coolant system by the bleeder valve uptop right near/above the coolant sensor!.(10MM Mini socket w/ extension IIRC!)
That is the temperture control sensor to start the fans at the radiator. they have another sensor called the Engine Temperature Sensor. It is also located at the top of the engine.
