Jeep GCL Backfires Stalls

Heres a long one for you. I have a !997 Jeep GCL 4.0 straight 6cyl. 185,000 and some odd miles. The car starts up great in the morning. Runs really well. After I make my first few stops of the day it starts to hessitate while driving. Backfiring. Stalling. Hard starting. As the day goes on the worse it gets. I have put over 1500 in parts on this car and still no answers. I gave engine misfire code and map sensor code even after everything has been changed. ABS light comes on at times before misfires happen.

Changed-
Plugs, wires, button, dist cap, map sensor, O2 sensors, fuel pump, filter, crank position sensor, cat converter, muffler (blew apart during a backfire one day)

Whats the deal here? I have had 3 different shops look at it but nothing has changed.

Replaced computer. Same issues. I did fix it by soaking a rag in oil and shoving it in the gas tank. Lit it and ran! No. Not really. Sold the car to some guy that said he could fix it. $2500 To recover the all the new parts i put into is and a down payment on a new ride. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Aaron, I had the same problem. It is the most expensive part of course the computer. I replaced everything as well till I replaced it. They are remanufactured and have had problems with them as well. I am on my third one now at 200k miles. Oh and by the way it does not show up on the diagnostic check. Good luck

Frank

I have a 2001 Jeep GCL with 125K miles. Engine Light has been on for a few months. Jeep is running great. Any ideas what might be wrong?

have a code scan done (most larger parts outlets do that free) likely you have a bad O2 sensor but without testing, it really could be just about anything.

02 with 44k miles. Stalls intermittently and backfires at start.

Fuel filter.or catalitic converter. I had 44000 on my Monte Carlo when it acted like it could not breath. The catalitic converter was clogged. I got a new high flow type.GM covered my replacement.

P0300, P0304, P0306, and P0456- 2000 Jeep GCL

Have run into this problem with the Jimmy and Chevy pickup. The CPS is often the cause but as you havere placed it, make sure it is good by the way my first was bad. Check your computor harness connectind to CPU as if it gets pinched somehow it will give you the same reaction. It will take patients to check the harness. Good Luck hope this helps.
