The daytime running lamps are the high beam bulbs connected in a series which puts a lower voltage to them causing them to appear dimmer. if your low beams are not working i'd start by checking the bulbs to make sure they're not just burnt out. then check the fuses. if that doesnt work let me know and i'll help you trouble shoot it further

those systems are a curse to repair, usually its a grounding problem, the headlight ground through the bcm, try going to cavalier drl repairs, its a website for gm car headlights
dont replace the bulbs ...check the fuses first...each circuit has its own independent fuse...one for low beam one for high beam and a separate low voltage one for running lights...you may have 1 bad bulb at very worst that could have blown the fuse...why spend extra money on 2
The ding noise is getting your attention the daytime running light flashing is saying no daytime running light are working.
Check engine means no headlights.
Check fuses
check to see if the headlights are plugged in.
Well...lets start with the obvious. Check fuses and NEVER piggyback any stereo or security stuff into their fuses...you dont want the lights to shut down during a night drive!! Check under the hood for a relay center...also has some fuses there as well.
The Daytime Running Lamps are a "straight through wiring configuration". Doubt it even goes through a headlight switch at all. But the regular lights do. Unless you've worked on the front of the car and forgot to plug the headlights back in, do this... Turn the light switch on...looking at the instrument cluster , can you make the high-beam-indicator light come on? As you rotate the headlight switch knob...does the instrument panel lights brighten or dim? You probably have a faulty headlight switch...auto stores have them...they simply plug in.
