2005 cavalier wont start after running for a while, jumo it and it starts just fine. When you try to start it just makes one ticking noise and nothing else

Happened twice now. Starts right up. drive it for about 15 to 20 min, stop for 5 min try to start it and makes a click noise and thats it. Everything else works fine. I jump it and it starts right up. Cleaned the battery and cables last night, and did it again when I got to work this morning. Any ideas on what it could be???

Battery is dead, or alternator isn't charging the battery. Once it is running, disconnect the positive battery cable, and see if the alternator will run the car... with headlights on. If it quits, the alternator is bad - if it keeps running, the battery is bad.

SOURCE: my 08 equinox wont start. It makes a click sound then nothing.

Check the Starter. If it's clicking it could have gone bad. Advanced/Autozone/Pep Boys all do free starter checks.

Chevy cavalier wont stop cranking

You need to make sure the solenoid wire isn't making contact with the starter wire. Be sure you don't have the purple wire making contact with the red wire.

I notice my oil was low, cause it was running a little rough. So I put a quart in. Then it was running better. Then I drove it the next day and it started making a ticking noise and now it is getting...

the ticking , if you hear it on the top of the motor, will be a rocker arm,, it could be plugged and not getting oil, if its coming from lower down in the motor, it is possibly a stuck valve,, or a rod bearing , if its a ticking noise its more than likely the rocker assembly,, if its more of a knocking noise its lower in the motor

It's kind of something telling you that your battery shot. The battery isn't pushing out enough amperage to have things properly function. Replace the battery if the car will not start again after running for about 2 minutes

I have a 2005 dodge neon sxt, in the morning when I start it up I hear a loud knocking noise from the engine but after about 15 seconds it gets softer but is still there all day when I'm driving around.

It is probably your lifters sticking. Check your engine oil level and if thats fine, then add some oil detergent/additive that says it will "reduce engine knock and free sticky lifters" run with that additive for a couple hundred miles or until the noise gets better. then replce your oil after that without using the additive

Get a jump start, with a good heavy duty set of jump leads.

Then have your battery tested.

Car wont start

I would take the battery to your local Auto Parts store and have them test it out. Or U can have your lights on and when U try turning over the car and the lights go out you need to replace battery.
