99 Windstar. No heat coming out in front only in rear. Was told my mechanic that I needed to have a temperature door on evaporator assembly but I am having difficulty finding the part without purchasing the entire evaporator assy. Is mechanic correct?
Yes. I have the same problem as well-- Only heat in the back. Front blower is still putting out air, but it is cold. I've tried to find a bad fuse, but all fuses look good.Yes. Yes, he was right. The only place I can think of that might even have a door by itself would be a wrecking yard. The door by itself is not generally sold even by the dealership.

Usually a sign of a faulty blend door under the dash. The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and the vent outlets. One blend door is directly behind the radio.
The blend door actuator is the most likely cause. It is on the front of the heater box under the dash and looks like the picture below and #14 on the system exploded diagram. Remove the actuator, plug it back into it's cable, turn the key on and change the temperature setting to see if the actutor turns. If not, replace the actuator.
I have a similar problem with my 2000 Windstar. Mine makes a clicking noise/thumping noise when I move the temp. control. I was told it is the "Blend Door Acutator" which makes sense. The little actuator must have a stripped gear, and is not working as it should. I am in the process of removing mine to get at the "blend door" to try to set it to the heat side for now. It is not above the radio as someone had suggested, mine is located in back of the radio.
Blend air door may be stuck. I removed a pencil from a heater box before. It had fallen from the dash, down through the defrost vents and jamed the door.
somewhere in the cabin there is a panel, behind it there will be a small vacuum valve that opens duct heat/cool for the back. I had it go bad in a windstar and stuck on heat, too lazy to replace so i'd pull panel and manually move it once or twice a year
I would think the door you hear flapping is the door that controls the airflow across the heater coil - and the fan keeps blowing the door closed, preventing the airflow from going across the heating coil. I don't know whether this vehicle is vacum controlled or cable controlled - so either it's a disconnected cable, or a leaking vacum line.
YES I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, NO HEAT IN THE FRONT BUT HEAT IN THE REAR
