This year and model uses a Hydraulic clutch release system, all hydraulic clutches by design are self adjusting. If you have a hard pedal or a slip problem you need to replace the clutch disk and pressure plate.

Clutch plate location

Hi Timothy, The clutch plate is fitted between the gearbox and the engine. Adjustment is carried out by lengthening or shortening the push rod. Some manufactures have adjustments between the slave cylinder and the clutch folk (underneath the vehicle) while others have adjustments between the top of the clutch pedal and the master cylinder, and others require replacement of the rod with shorter or longer, depending if the clutch is engaging to low or too high. If the clutch is slipping it will probably be too late for adjustment and require replacement of the clutch plate and possibly the clutch cover (pressure plate) and maybe the thrust bearing, Regards John

Put a cluth in a 1991 toyota mr2 turbo 2.0 and its still grinding when I shift gears.. what can I do to solvve my problem

have you replaced your fly wheel and release bearing when you changed your clutch disc?

if yes, then replace your transmission fluid.
also, if you know hot to adjust your clutch release, adjust it. adjust it in a way that you need to draw back your clutch pedal a little higher for the clutch to complete engage.

here are some ways to adjust your clutch.

1. for clutch using clutch cable. open your hood, locate for the transmision, and there you can see a cable that connects the transmision and the clutch pedal. loosen in up a little.
2. for hydrovac clutch with self correcting features. just pull your clutch pedal away from the floor for a few seconds and its done.
3. for hyrovac without self correction. manually adjust the push rod (metal rod that connects the clutch pedal to the clutch master)

I cannot get the car into gear. It is a manual transmission. Is there a spot where fluid goes in for the clutch?

Your clutch is not hydraulic but is supposed to self adjust. Try the procedure below to help it adjust. If it will not adjust, the clutch may be worn out.

ADJUSTMENT

Free-Play See Figures 8, 9 and 10
The clutch free-play is adjusted automatically by a built-in clutch control mechanism. This device allows the clutch controls to self-adjust during normal operation.
The system consists of a spring-loaded gear quadrant, a spring-loaded pawl and a clutch cable which is spring-loaded to preload the release lever bearing. This compensates for movement of the release lever, as the clutch disc wears. The pawl, located at the top of the clutch pedal, engages the gear quadrant when the clutch pedal is depressed and pulls the cable through its continuously adjusted stroke. Clutch cable adjustments are not required because of this feature.

CHECKING ADJUSTMENT
The self-adjusting feature should be checked every 5,000 miles (8,000 km). This is accomplished by ensuring that the clutch pedal travels to the top of its upward position. Grasp the clutch pedal with your hand or put your foot under the clutch pedal, and pull up on the pedal until it stops. Very little effort is required (about 10 lbs./4.5 kg). Finally, depress the clutch pedal and listen for an audible "click.'' If you hear a sound, the clutch was in need of adjustment, and it has just adjusted itself.

The clutch pedal on Suzuki vitara two litre V6 1998 goes to about inch of floor before activation. Clutch does not slip just too much pedal travel. Is it possible to adjust it? ...

prev.gif next.gif Clutch ADJUSTMENTS 1997-98 Models CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT The clutch pedal height should not be a periodic adjustment but may be checked after components of the mechanical clutch system have been replaced. The proper clutch pedal height should be 0.2 in. (5mm) above the brake pedal height If adjustment is necessary, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting bolt until the appropriate height is reached. Once set, keep the bolt from turning and tighten the locknut to secure the adjustment. CLUTCH PEDAL FREE-PLAY The clutch pedal free-play should be checked from time-to-time in order to assure proper clutch operation. The proper clutch free-play should be 0.6-1.1 in. (15-25mm). Fig. 1: Pedal free-play is adjusted at the joint nut (2), while keeping the outer cable nuts (3) tightened around the center cable thread portion 7924hg30.gif
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. If the free-play must be adjusted, turn the joint nut (2) located at the transmission end of the clutch cable in or out, as necessary to achieve the proper play.
  3. Once the correct pedal free-play is obtained, check the free-play on the release arm (c), it should be 0.02-0.06 in. (0.5-1.5mm).
1999-01 Models These vehicles are equipped with a hydraulic clutch system. No adjustment is necessary.

1991 Toyota pickup 4WD clutch slipping

There is an adjustment for the clutch pedal under the dash where the push rod goes thru the firewall. There is only aprx. 1/2" of adjustment so be careful when making an adjustment, if your clutch is slipping then you need to shorten the throw of the push rod.

My clutch is slipping on my 1993 toyota truck. Are there adjustments I can make myself. I am fairly handy, but not a car repair expert.

Sorry, there are no adjustments on your vehicle., The clutch is activated via hydraulic pressure. The master and slave cylinders are "self-adjusting". If the clutch is slipping, you are going to need to pull the trans and replace the clutch assembly. Changing the hydraulics will not help a slipping clutch at all.

Clutch slipping

first i would try adjusting the clutch cable because commonly people with think that they're clutch is going out when really just the cable has gotten stretched....try adjusting that first and if that works then you should be fine for another couple thousand miles but if you want to not have to worry bout it for awhile i would just replace teh clutch assembly....usually ranges from $200 to $450 depending on the clutch set and the mechanic that does the work for you. Let me know what happens. :)
