Battery drains overnight, while driving

ABS light/brake light goes on and off, lights flash on and off, battery drains, will recharge with alternator but drains again, headlights flicker or dim then come back (while driving), same with A/C fans. Can fully charge battery with charger at night - check the next morning it is low or dead. Battery is less than a year old, alternator replace a year ago at the same time.

SOURCE: "check system charging" is coming on at high RPM's

You have an alternator problem, have Kragen auto or a store like it test the alternator for proper operation, it's free.

SOURCE: 1998 windstar van: charging system light goes

It could mean the alternator has gone bad already... with the car off, the battery leads should read 11-12V.. with the car on, the battery should read 13-14V.. if it's lower then it's not charging your battery and if it's higher, it's damaging your battery....

SOURCE: Battery won't hold charge

My 2002 Ford2.gif Escape had a similar issue later in 2006. My alternator died and I needed replacement. After replacing, the light would come on and off at times. When everything running (i.e. radio2.gif, air conditioner, driving lights) and tocuh electric windows up the power would lower and sometimes battery light on dashboard would come up. Original mechanic could find out what was going on and I lived for 2-3 years with it.

This past August 2009 after a long trip (i.e. 8 hours or so) my battery died. Brought to a auto parts place and they determined it was the baterry and the alternator. Since I was back on my home town I went to a good friend that is a mechanic and he fixed it for real.

He had a similar issue with three different Escapes coming back with alternator or baterry or both death. He found out that Ford has an official report for Escapes that when this happens the electric fan behind the radiator are short circuiting, affect direclty the baterry and alternator killing them, and needs replacement.

Try this and may work for you.

Why do the break light and battery light come on at the same time. Then after driving for a while they turn off.

You may have a crossed wires in the wiring harness when applying the brakes. This may create a high current drain on the battery, then the battery light comes on. The alternator recharges the battery and the battery light goes off. I would not worry about it until the battery light stays on all the time. Then you will have to get it fixed very soon or you will end up stranded somewhere.

Charging stystem seems to be working..... But when ever the miss's gets inthe car to go to work, she will get 10 miles and the battery light will start flashing, then get solid and she will lose the head...

When this happens, are the gauges dropping or not working properly or at all? Check the alternator. May not be charging so everything is running off the battery. The battery is used mostly for starting, but the alternator recharges the battery, so if after driving for a short while, and alternator not charging, everything electrical will drain the battery. You can sometimes drive the car for a while when this happens, or if the alternator goes out completely, the car will not run at all.

My emergency brake light came on at the same time as my battery light. I turned off the heater and raideo and drove home and parked it. Tried to start it this morning and my battery discharged over night i...

Not sure why the brake light came on unless it is warning of the lack of ABS but it can be a failed alternator causing the overnight discharge. Alternators have semiconductor diode in them and when one fails, it can easily drain the battery within hours.
If you can get it moving, drive to one of the chain auto parts stores; they will check your alternator and battery while in the vehicle.

While driving my battery light came on followed closely with the ABS light & brake light. Then the speedometer, odometer & tachometer quit working. Now it won't start.

Sounds like the car was running on just the battery. Recharge the battery with a plug-in battery charger, then see what happened to the charging circuit--alternator, drive belt, blown fuse--loose wire. This should have set the check engine light.

The ABS,Brake Light,Battery light go on and off sporadically while driving.Does this indicate an Alternator failure or a sensor/computer problem?

yes it's most likely a alternator problem, usually the internal diode bridge breaks causing all lights you mentioned to come on,if this happens at a idle open the hood and remove green connector on alt.if lights go out you've found the problem
