Question about 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe
I recently bought a 2008 santa fe and it has a loud whin noise when you start it up. Continues whining when driving and is coming from the front area of the motor by serpitine belt and power steering pump. Any thoughts?
Is it a "wine" noise that gets louder when you rev it up? Sounds like an idler pulley. Is it a 3.3L motor?

Any moisture that comes in contact with the pulley or belt will cause the belt to squeak, or squeal...this is telling you that the belt is slipping, and will possibly affect the smoothness of your steering manuevers...be sure to check the power steering connection lines before replacing the pump...Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Whining Noise
Sure sounds like a power steering pump, if they did not flush the grim out of the system from the old pump before they replaced the pump the new pump will fail in short order.

Sure sounds like its low of fluid or the filter is very dirty! My guess is that it works well driving straight open road. Most often the filter is inside the pump. Frankster016
