Car radio comes on for a few seconds then cuts itself off

power or just the sound? reason I ask is I had an antenna go bad (loose/rusty) and cut the sound in/out as it made and unmade contact to roof where it was mounted too, I guess too many car washes and it took its toll on it

It is your phone doing it, it updates itself with the carrier every so often and causes a few seconds worth of RF interference when it does that.

nevr go to a dealer--inxperiencd techs--sounds like the capacitors are worn----go to a radio shop

replace IC of car door lock... this is a little black box inside the steering wheel cover

Is this a factory radio or aftermarket. is this the radio vw put in or is this a radio you put in,

Just started the car and it cut straight out. It revved up like a normal start but instead of revs dropping to normal it cut out. I decided to try and drive it anyway to top up with petrol as light was on (But not near empty) and when I came to a stop it cut out. On starting it up this time the car revved up to the redline by itself and I had to quickly remove the key. It did this 3 more times then on the fourth start it decided to stay on but rev itself and kept reving between 1 and 2000 revs as seen in the video here I just took: YouTube - Alfa 156 constant reving


When I turn the car off it doesn't just cut out as usual either...now it sort of takes an extra few seconds as seen in this second video I just took: YouTube - Delay in turning off (The key is turned at 7 seconds)

I know the is a hole in my exhaust somewhere because there is alot of hot air coming from the drivers door area and its been like this for a few months now but surely a hole in an exhaust can't cause all this. Any ideas?

if its the stock radio, the security alarm runs through it, mine did same till i pulled the stock one and put a aftermarket radio in.

I have the same problem with my 05 tdi... Sound cuts off after a few seconds and turns back on only to cut out again after a few seconds. I would love to know the solution.

You might wanna try taking the radio fuse out for a few seconds and then putting it back in. Sometimes that helps the radio reset itself and will begin working as it should. If that doesn't work, try disconnecting the battery also for a few seconds, and if still that doesn't work, then you might have to take the whole thing out (radio) and open it to try to take the CD out manually. After that, if the problem persists, just replace the whole thing. Hope that only taking the fuse out for a while will solve you problem.

I would check the wiring check the fuses but it sounds like the radio has a internal fault hope this helps thanks
